An unfortunate The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt player faced an embarrassing and truly unexpected death when encountering their first fight in the game. Released in 2015, The Witcher 3 takes place in the stunning fantasy world of the Continent dotted with curious locales, untold treasures, and monstrous creatures that Geralt of Rivia must battle while searching for his adopted daughter, Ciri.

Praised by many fans as one of the best RPGs of all time, The Witcher 3 is rife with immersive storytelling beyond just its main story quest. Riddled with intricate side quests and incredibly complex characters, the recent arrival of The Witcher 3 on PS Plus is giving those who haven’t played the title before the chance to delve into its rich and highly detailed world. Despite being nearly 10 years old, the title still pulls in thousands of players a day, with new discoveries still being made and shared online with the game’s active community.

In a post on Reddit, user LDoubleU91 showcased a clip of their Witcher 3 playthrough that, unfortunately, didn’t go too well from the start. Amid their very first fight scene against a horde of creatures, the user only barely managed to get their sword out for combat before they were kicked in the head by a horse, killing them instantly. It’s not too clear whether the deviant horse was The Witcher 3‘s Roach, Geralt’s own personal mare, or Vesemir’s horse, but either way, it certainly wasn’t how the player expected to go down.

The Witcher 3 Player Shares Mortifying Death in Game’s First Fight

Even though LDoubleU91 was embarrassed by their early defeat in the game, the comment section of the post was filled with humorous remarks from Witcher fans. One Redditor said that it was the player’s own fault as they startled the poor horse, while another user expressed that this was the definition of “stabbing someone in the back.” Unfortunately this time, the user can’t put this unlucky occurrence down to The Witcher 3‘s many game breaking glitches and will have to take it as a hard lesson to stay away from horses while in combat.

Despite the many improvements that CD Projekt Red has made to The Witcher 3 through numerous updates over the years, players continue to experience many strange glitches and annoying bugs. Recently, one player came across a glitch that saw The Witcher 3‘s Geralt of Rivia speedrun through a combat scene, making short work of a Golem, one of the game’s many powerful monsters.
