A new update for the 2024 remake of Until Dawn gives players on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro the ability to prioritize graphics or frame rate. Until Dawn Patch 1.06 lets players on either version of the PS5 switch between Performance and Fidelity modes, as well as giving PC players monitor switching support.
A remake of Supermassive Games’ 2015 interactive horror drama, the game by Ballistic Moon debuted on October 4 for PlayStation 5 and PC. The game has seen mixed reviews from professional critics and fans alike, due in part to the feeling that there aren’t enough changes in the Until Dawn remake from the original release to justify its price, although the majority of fans seem to praise its visual upgrades over the 2015 release.

Why a Potential Until Dawn 2 Would Stand Out Amid Supermassive’s Horror Anthology
Until Dawn 2 could be on its way, and if the rumors prove true, then it could be a major first for Supermassive Games’ contemporary portfolio.
The timing of the new update seems largely to have been released to take advantage of the PlayStation 5 Pro, which is slated for release on November 7. The mid-generation console includes major upgrades to rendering, memory, and storage over the original PlayStation 5. Although players can see upgraded performance with any game running on the more-powerful hardware, several developers have been retooling older games and planning new games specifically for optimized PS5 Pro performance, with the current list of PS5 Pro-optimized games numbering more than 50 just days ahead of the console’s launch. While developers featured in trailers for multiple games have lauded the PS5 Pro for not making players choose between high frame rates and high-quality graphical fidelity, the patch notes reveal that the option of switching between Performance Mode and Fidelity Mode in Until Dawn is available on both the original PlayStation 5 and the PS5 Pro.
In addition to the new presentation features for both PC and consoles, the patch notes include fixes for more than 50 different bugs that players have been running into. While some of these bugs are minor, involving Until Dawn characters’ hair and bodies moving in unintended ways during specific scenes, the new patch also addresses some more serious soft-locking issues that have been preventing players from progressing through the story. These include Mike becoming stuck in the Sanitorium during chapters 5 and 9, as well as Sam getting stuck after the window cutscene during Chapter 9.
The notes also make mention of several other known issues that the development team has not fixed yet, but progress is being made to address them. Just days after launch, Until Dawn was struggling on PC, with a number of performance issues. Until certain performance issues can be fixed, the patch notes state that Enhanced Ray Tracing has been temporarily disabled, as has FSR Frame Generation for PCs running the game on Nvidia 40-series graphics cards. The developers also remind PC players that Until Dawn requires DirectX 12 at minimum, and any earlier version will cause rendering issues on PC.
