The full launch of V Rising saw a significant overhaul to the way players progress through the game. There are now more ways to gain power, from new weapons and armor to the ability to choose which spells to unlock first. These new implements pave the way for a new type of activity called Rift Incursions, which offers players even more power should they prove themselves worthy.
Rift Incursions are world events that occasionally appear in the Ruins of Mortium, the new region added in V Rising 1.0. It’s a fun way to test out builds and enjoy the game’s amazing combat, but there’s more to this activity than just another avenue for wanton slaughter. Here’s everything you need to know about them.

What Are Rift Incursions In V Rising?
These are PvE-focused combat events that will pit players against waves of Dracula’s ancient vampires supported by monsters and cultists. The goal is to close rifts by destroying crystals in the vicinity of the event area, which is done by slaughtering the enemies guarding them. The lowest-level Rift Incursion is Level 57, so arm yourself with the best gear you have before setting out.
Rift Incursions only spawn in the Mortium region — certain areas of the map will have an indicator saying that an incursion is happening. You’ll know when one is coming by building an Eye of Mortium; you can get the crafting recipe for this by beating General Elena the Hollow, a V Blood boss that roams the western edge of the Ruins of Mortium.
Once you arrive at an incursion site, all you have to do is destroy the big, floating crystals by killing enemies near them. Defeat enough enemies, and the crystal will shatter, showering you with Stygian Shards, which are used to unlock passive skills. Follow the dark streaks in the air to find the location of the rest of the crystals, then repeat the process until all of them are destroyed. The final crystal of a Rift Incursion will have the shadow of a previously-slain V Blood unit guarding it, so be ready for a big fight.
Defeating the V Blood marks the end of the Rift Incursion. You’ll get even more Stygian Shards from the destroyed crystal, and the boss’ death may yield some Ancestral Weapon Shards, which can be used to make Ancestral Weapons in V Rising. These weapons come with modifiers that grant special effects on their abilities. You can also buy varying Ancestral Weapon Shards using Stygian Shards from the Vampire Merchants in Mortium.
