At the beginning of the medieval action RPG Kingdom Come Deliverance, protagonist Henry was a young blacksmith’s apprentice torn from everything he had ever known, driven solely by a desire for revenge against his parents’ killers. Now, in the sequel Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Henry has grown and matured, embarking on the path towards becoming a true knight. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 will see Henry’s journey continue on a much larger scale than in the first game, as he becomes involved in the politics and intrigue of the bustling city of Kuttenberg.
The Warhorse Studios team, as well as actor Tom McKay, who portrays Henry, recently discussed how the character has changed and grown since the first Kingdom Come Deliverance. They emphasized that Henry is still, in many ways, a blank slate who can be taken in any direction the player chooses – although, some key elements define him, including his friendship with Sir Hans and his ongoing struggle to move past his parents’ murder.
The 23 Best Kingdom Come: Deliverance Mods, Ranked
Kingdom Come Deliverance has plenty of interesting mods out there. These are the best ones you can get right now.
Henry Started as a Nobody, Now He’s So Much More
“When it seems you’re out of luck, there’s just one man who gives a f*ck…now who can that man be? Henry, our hero Henry,” sang Luke Dale, who plays Henry’s friend and mentor Sir Hans, as he reminisced about Henry and Hans’ bond. McKay eagerly chimed in to emphasize just how far Henry had come from the young boy learning how to forge swords at his father’s side. In a teasing tone reminiscent of his character Sir Hans, Dale insisted that, despite everything, Henry is still a relatable character for players.
Henry is a character that I think everyone can identify with because he starts off as a kind of nobody and goes through life with all these immense challenges, and I feel like everybody can relate to that.
Prokob Jirsa, the game’s lead designer, emphasized that Henry is still very much an ambiguously defined character who players can shape by the decisions they make as they play through Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. “Henry is a young guy,” Jirsa said, “so he’s not really deeply entrenched in his already set character traits.” He emphasized that players can take Henry in many different directions – he doesn’t have to be a heroic knight, and can just as easily become a criminal, a scoundrel, a murderer, or a tyrant. Whoever Henry becomes by the end of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 will be ultimately shaped by the player.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 May Focus On Henry As A Warrior
The preview video for the game highlights many things Henry is or can be, including “Orphan,” “Bastard,” “Lover,” and more. But the title that is arguably given the most focus is “Warrior” – something that makes sense, given Kingdom Come Deliverance 2’s focus on Henry’s journey to knighthood and growing past the young, unsure boy he once was.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 will feature even more accurate and in-depth medieval combat compared to the first game, the Warhorse Studios team revealed. In addition to the sword fights and hand-to-hand brawls from the original Kingdom Come Deliverance, Henry will get to wield a variety of crossbows and other long-range weapons including early firearms. Of course, players will also have the option to slit throats with a knife, cross swords with a foe in an honorable knightly duel, or, of course, simply smack them in a no-holds-barred brawl. The focus on combat in the preview video definitely hints that Henry will grow as a fighter and take on fiercer enemies than ever before when Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 launches later in 2024.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
Warhorse’s Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a realistic RPG set in Medieval Europe, specifically 15th-century Bohemia. The game has an expansive open-world, real-time first-person combat, deep customization, and hours of cinematics.
