  • Players who bought The War Within Collector’s Edition will now receive guaranteed beta access codes by June 12.
  • Fans were surprised by Blizzard’s update, reversing previous statements that denied beta access to Collector’s Edition buyers.
  • While the beta code likely won’t unlock all digital goods, players no longer need to purchase the Epic Edition for guaranteed beta access.

World of Warcraft is sending players who purchased the Collector’s Edition for The War Within digital codes for beta access no later than June 12. This surprise is a reversal of a previous statement by World of Warcraft that indicated these fans wouldn’t get guaranteed beta access without additional purchases.

The beta for World of Warcraft: The War Within officially began on June 5. Players can opt-in to the beta on the official site for a chance to be invited, but those who pre-purchased The War Within Epic Edition get guaranteed access to the testing phase. However, those who bought the Collector’s Edition box for World of Warcraft: The War Within didn’t receive this perk, despite getting everything else in the Epic Edition.

World of Warcraft: The War Within Beta is Now Live

World of Warcraft marks a major milestone on the road to releasing The War Within by kicking off the first build of its official beta testing phase.

Now, World of Warcraft has great news for these dissatisfied fans. Just recently, World of Warcraft quietly updated the Blizzard Gear Store entry for the Collector’s Edition of The War Within to include a paragraph confirming guaranteed beta access is coming. Players who have already pre-purchased the premium edition should keep an eye on their Battle.net emails, as they will receive a code to grant them beta access on or before Wednesday, June 12.

Beta Access for WoW: The War Within Collector’s Edition

  • Players who bought The War Within Collector’s Edition will receive a beta access code by email no later than Wednesday, June 12.

Previously, World of Warcraft fans who got the Collector’s Edition could only get guaranteed beta access if they also pre-purchased The War Within Epic Edition. While Blizzard automatically credits their account with Battle.net balance for the purchase, it still required them to commit an extra $90 to Blizzard if they wanted to get everything from their purchase right away. These players will no longer need to do this to get beta access.

Unfortunately, this code probably won’t unlock the other digital goods ahead of time, such as the Algarian Stormrider, Deepdweller’s Earthen Hearthstone, and Trader’s Tender for use at the Trading Post in World of Warcraft. To get these items, fans will have to either wait until their physical copy arrives shortly before the expansion’s release in a few months or buy the Epic Edition as well.

Either way, this is a huge win for World of Warcraft players. Few expected Blizzard to go back on its word in this way, so the fact that it did surprised and delighted fans. These players may have to wait an extra week for beta access, but considering June 12 is around when fans can expect the second build, it will likely be just in time to start testing the Class Sets for World of Warcraft: The War Within.
