Highlights
- Rain of Fire now instant cast, creating OP showers of flame.
- Classic Era realms plagued by unintended glitches from update.
- Netherwind Regalia set loses textures, appearing flat gray.
World of Warcraft’s recent update in preparation for Season of Discovery Phase 4 has caused some glitches to ripple out into other Classic Era realms. While these bugs will almost certainly be squashed soon, they are creating some comical problems in the retro World of Warcraft servers in the meantime.
Recently, World of Warcraft Classic implemented a sizable patch in preparation for Phase 4 of Season of Discovery. This update is the first endgame phase of the experimental WoW Classic realm, featuring a brand-new dungeon, revamped versions of iconic raids and world bosses, and tons of class-altering Rune engravings and skill books to collect.

WoW Season of Discovery: Phase 4 Release Time
WoW Classic’s Season of Discovery Phase 4 is going live in July 2024. Here’s everything you need to know.
However, it seems this update has had some unintended side effects on other Classic WoW realms. Several glitches have appeared since World of Warcraft‘s eight-hour maintenance concluded, many of which seem to be bleeding over from Season of Discovery. The new Might of Stormwind buff – the Season of Discovery-only Alliance counterpart to the Horde’s Warchief’s Blessing – is popping up on Classic Era and Hardcore realms, as is an unlocking quest for the Testament of the Divine Steed skill book. What’s more, WoW content creator Esuvii discovered that the Warlock’s Rain of Fire spell lost its channeling time, leading to some hilariously overpowered showers of flame.
WoW Classic Era Bugs Caused by Season of Discovery Phase 4 Update
- Warlock’s Rain of Fire is an instant cast spell, rather than being channeled.
- The Testament of Divine Steed, a new WoW Classic Season of Discovery skill book, can be obtained, despite not otherwise being added until Legion.
- Might of Stormwind buff from Season of Discovery Phase 4 has appeared when turning in the Head of Rend Blackhand.
- Mage’s Netherwind Regalia Tier 2 set has lost its textures.
The Netherwind Regalia – the iconic Mage tier set from WoW Classic – seems to have lost its graphical textures. This has left the majority of the outfit with a flat gray model, rather than the iconic blues and purples players are used to.
Hilarious as they may be, the bleed over from Season of Discovery patch has caused a few problems – especially considering it has affected the high-stakes Classic Hardcore realms as well. There may be other glitches players have yet to find; these are simply the ones Wowhead identified since maintenance concluded. WoW Classic Season of Discovery Phase 4 officially begins on July 11, so hopefully Blizzard will be able to resolve these issues before too long. Needless to say, these were not the discoveries Season of Discovery fans were expecting to find in this update.
