A jack-of-all-trades class, Druids in World of Warcraft Classic can be difficult to learn, but having all Roles available (and the best time traveling in the open world) makes the steep curve bearable. In the Season of Discovery, Druids Runes not only improve the class’ many playstyles, but also grants it a coveted skill the Alliance has never had before: Windfury, through the Wild Strikes Rune.

World of Warcraft: The Best Classes for Hardcore Mode
The best Hardcore World of Warcraft classes are those that can easily survive to max level, if players can manage their playstyles – and their pets.
Though many of these WoW Druid Runes have been officially revealed, some have only been revealed by datamining, and may change with the release of the Season of Discovery. Because only one Rune can be equipped to each slot, each section below ranks Druid Runes against other Runes within the same gear category.
Updated November 6, 2023 by Erik Petrovich: Now that the Season of Discovery is in full swing a week after launch, all Druid Runes SoD players can get have been found. Some are easy to get, and players will practically stumble across some Druid SoD Runes in the starting zones, while others can only be used after long questlines (and long journeys across Azeroth). This guide to the best SoD Druid Runes has been updated with all Discovery methods – but players who want to preserve the sense of adventure and mystery need not avert their gaze. Though the names and effects are spoiled below, the methods to get each of the best Druid Runes in SoD are hidden by default. Only reveal this information if you are truly stumped on how to get the best Druid Runes WoW SoD offers.
This guide to the best Druid Runes in WoW SoD covers all 12 Phase One Runes. Later in the season, check back for information on the best Druid Runes for other equipment slots when the 40, 50, and 60 level brackets unlock in later Phases.
Druid Chest Runes, Ranked
Fury of Stormrage, Living Seed, Survival of the Fittest, & Wild Strikes
Druids have a lot of builds and playstyles available to them, and each Rune typically applies to one of its four specs. However, that isn’t to say that some runes aren’t worth taking over others, even if they don’t quite fit into your build. One such ability for Druids is Wild Strikes. Before now, the Alliance haven’t had access to the Windfury ability, but the Druid Rune Wild Strikes grants the exact same effects to allies. If you are a Druid, this is one that most parties are going to require.
Other Chest Druid Runes are far from bad, though. Survival of the Fittest will be the go-to Tanking rune for Guardian Druids, Living Seed will be crucial for healing and support builds, while Fury of Stormrage gives Balance Druids a big boon to both Wrath damage and healing at once.
Survival of the Fittest
Purchased from Grizzby in the Ratchet Inn after completing a series of quests requiring several items – 24 Fish Oil, 20 Dark Iron Ordinance, and 16 Shredder Turbochargers. Players have at least 5 Gold to interact with Grizzby.

Wild Strikes Effect
|

- Each melee hit has a 20% chance of granting the attacker an extra attack with 20% additional Attack Power.
- No effect if the party member is already benefitting from Windfury Totem.

Druid Legs Runes, Ranked
Lifebloom, Savage Roar, Skull Bash, & Starsurge
Wild Strikes is the standout among the Chest Runes Druids can choose, but when it comes to Legs Runes, things get a little more complicated. Once again, each of these Runes seems tailored to a spec, but some can be useful to all. Skull Bash, for example, gives Druids a reliable interrupt, useful for damage and Tank druids both.

World of Warcraft: How to Make Gold in Hardcore Mode
Making money in Classic World of Warcraft is hard enough. In Hardcore, players have to worry about losing it all, but the economy is a bit different.
Lifebloom is a great healing Rune for Druids, but another HoT for a class that relies primarily on HoT might feel stale. On the other hand, Balance Druids’ new Rune Starsurge will give them something new to play with in the casting rotation, while Savage Roar has the potential to be a feral Druid’s most-used ability.
Like the Rogue’s Slice & Dice, this buff doesn’t go away when an enemy dies – just be sure to use up your combo points before they flop over.
Lifebloom
Tauren characters must complete a Ritual with another player at a corpse in Mulgore near the Venture Co. Cave
Night Elf characters must complete a Ritual with another player at a corpse in the north of Teldrassil near Harpies
Lifebloom Effect
|
- Heals the target over 7 sec. When Lifebloom completes its duration or is dispelled, the target instantly heals and the Druid regains half the mana cost of the spell.
- This effect can stack up to 3 times on the same target
|
Skull Bash
Purchased from Waylaid Supply vendors after reaching Honored with the new faction, the Azeroth Commerce Authority/Durotar Supply and Logistics.
Skull Bash Effect
|
- Charge to a target within 13 yards and bash the target’s skull, interrupting spellcasting and preventing any spell in that school from being cast for 2 sec.
- Shares a cooldown with Feral Charge.
|
Starsurge
Speak with a Dwarf inside a cave in the Wetlands to get a Marshroom. In a nearby pond, players can find a Frog on top of a tree stump, who trades the Rune for the Marshroom.
Starsurge Effect
|
- Launch surging stellar energies that causes Arcane damage.
- Starsurge benefits from and triggers most talents and effects that trigger or benefit from Wrath or Starfire.
|
Savage Roar
Tauren characters must open Kolkar’s Booty Chests, only found in the Barrens, to get the Ferocious Idol. Equip the Idol, then Deal Bleeding damage to Humanoid enemies 20 times.
Night Elf characters must defeat the Den Mother in Darkshore to get the Ferocious Idol. Equip the Idol, then Deal Bleeding damage to Humanoid enemies 20 times.
Savage Roar Effect
|
- Finishing move that increases physical damage done by 30% while in Cat Form. Lasts longer per combo point.

Druid Gloves Runes, Ranked
Lacerate, Mangle, Sunfire, & Wild Growth
The Gloves Runes Druids can get in SoD are a bit more applicable across all builds, as melee players may have a hard time choosing between Lacerate and Mangle. But Balance druids get Sunfire, an instant damage and DoT spell, while healers get Wild Growth, a great AoE heal that starts strong and tapers off. Sunfire is good, if unoriginal, while Wild Growth gives support Druids a decent emergency heal for group situations.
Lacerate and Mangle compete for the same slot for melee damage Druids, but of the two, Mangle offers the biggest damage increase. Lacerate can be useful for Guardian Druids, especially thanks to the Threat generation, but Mangle just a straight up improvement over existing abilities and may be easier for Druids to incorporate.
Sunfire
Tauren characters must find three Lunar Stones in Mulgore. Cast Moonfire on each Stone to reveal a Chest containing the Rune.
Night Elf characters must find three Lunar Stones in Teldrassil. Cast Moonfire on each Stone to reveal a Chest containing the Rune.

Symbol of the Second Owl can be found in The Twilight Grove in Duskwood after picking up the Eyes Of The Owl buff. Defeat Agon, a unique enemy found to the east of the second symbol, with this buff active.
Symbol of the Third Owl can be found in the Hillsbrad Foothills’ south, where players must swim between two islands and click two statues within two minutes, only possible with the use of Aquatic Form.
Wild Growth Effect
|
- Heals all of target player’s party members within 40 yards over 7 sec.
- The amount healed is applied quickly at first, and slows down as Wild Growth reaches its full duration.
|
Lacerate
Tauren characters must head to the Forgotten Pools in the Barrens to find Abandoned Snapjaw Eggs. Bring these to the Lushwater Oasis to unlock the Rune.

Night Elf characters must defeat Rageclaw, a unique quest enemy in Teldrassil, to get the Idol of Ursine Rage. Equip it, then maintain 50 Rage while in Bear Form for one minute.
Mangle Effect
|
