Wuthering Waves allows players to pick a male or female Rover as the main character at the start of a playthrough. This is the very first gameplay-impacting decision Wuwa players will have to make, so knowing all the facts is crucial.
This decision poses many questions: What’s the difference between the male and female characters? Are there voice lines? Do they play the same, or are there differences? Is there any gameplay advantage to picking one over the other?

In Wuthering Waves, the Pity system can be hard to understand, especially for players new to Gacha games. Here’s how it works.
Differences Between Male and Female Rover in Wuthering Waves
Gameplay-wise, there is no difference between Male and Female Rover in Wuthering Waves, and players will find them identical to play. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any differences to remember when making this decision.
Once selected, players will not be able to switch between Male and Female Rover during a playthrough. However,
rerolling their account
or switching to another region allows players to redo the selection.
Rover—both male and female—is not mute. He/she has voice lines that they will talk with during certain cutscenes. Players will be forgiven for thinking that the MC will remain silent because of the precedent set by Genshin Impact and because, for the first few key cutscenes in the game, the player character doesn’t speak, giving the impression that, like Aether and Lumine, they can’t.
However, once players progress further into the game, the MC will start having some lines of their own. And, of course, players who picked a female MC will hear a female voice actor, while players who pick a male MC will hear a male voice.

Players will recognize the Japanese VA for male MC as Eijiro Kirishima from My Hero Academia or Chikara Ennoshita from Haikyuu!! And the Japanese VA for female Rover as Mary Saotome from Kakegurui or Hinata Okano from Assassination Classroom.
Both MCs are considered canon. There are two sets of pre-rendered cutscenes for the entire playthrough, and players will find their selected MC is the one appearing in the cutscenes.
The running speed of both male and female Rover is also the same. Like Genshin Impact, running speed depends on the height of a character. So, running as a small character like Verina will be slower than running as a tall character like Yuanwu. However, since both male and female MCs have the same build (medium), their running speeds are the same. Of course, players can switch the MC out of the party at any time or use a tall character for traversal if they choose.
Neither MC has a given name other than Rover, and this name will refer to both throughout the game. However, the name chosen by the players for their Rover will show up as text during dialogue (but not audio).
