Microsoft has announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be a day-one Xbox Game Pass release. This is the first entry in the long-running series that has been officially confirmed to be coming to Xbox Game Pass.

Fans have been waiting for Xbox Game Pass to start receiving Call of Duty titles ever since Microsoft wrapped up its blockbuster acquisition of Activision Blizzard in mid-October 2023. That wait has proven to be quite lengthy, with Microsoft previously claiming that the regulatory uncertainty surrounding the acquisition deal dissuaded it from preparing to start adding Activision Blizzard’s catalog to its service in advance. Several insiders have even suggested that Microsoft was having second thoughts about bringing Call of Duty to Xbox Game Pass, although the company subsequently reassured fans that its previously announced publishing plans haven’t changed.

Microsoft Confirms Day-One Release of Black Ops 6 on Xbox Game Pass After Leaking It

Mere weeks after reiterating its pledge to bring Call of Duty to Xbox Game Pass, the gaming giant has at last announced the first such release in the form of Black Ops 6. The shooter’s arrival on the service was even leaked a few hours ahead of its official confirmation on May 28, when some Xbox Game Pass subscribers started receiving notifications about this highly-anticipated day-one launch.

While the announcement was light on the details, it reaffirmed that more information is set to follow early next month, when Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be treated to a worldwide reveal as part of a dedicated broadcast that’s scheduled to take place immediately after the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase. The first of the two events will kick off at 10am PT / 1pm ET on June 9. It is presently unclear whether the game’s release date will be revealed during its premiere. Previous reports indicated that Black Ops 6 is planned to hit the market sometime in October 2024.

The same-day release of Black Ops 6 on Microsoft’s subscription service is expected to pave the way for even more Call of Duty entries to at last reach Xbox Game Pass. Whether any such additions will actually be announced at the Xbox Games Showcase remains to be seen.

In the meantime, one recent report suggested that Microsoft will be making some changes to Xbox Game Pass tiers, citing the upcoming arrival of Call of Duty on the service as its main reason for doing so. The scope and other specifics of this purported move remain unclear.
