Yakuza: Like A Dragon revitalized the Yakuza series by infusing it with RPG elements, including a shift from the series’ classic brawler combat to a turn-based system. The gameplay is appropriate, given protagonist Ichiban Kasuga’s enthusiasm for the iconic Japanese RPG series, Dragon Quest. This integration of fantasy-inspired, turn-based combat fits surprisingly well into the game’s real-world-inspired locales.
In Yakuza: Like A Dragon, players have the opportunity to form a party of four from a selection of seven potential allies that Ichiban meets during his rise from rock bottom. Each character brings a unique set of skills with their base job and can also switch to different jobs to play specific roles within the party.
Yakuza: Like A Dragon – How to Change Job Class
Yakuza: Like a Dragon brings JRPG elements into the long-running franchise, and one of them is a job system, but how is a job changed?
From Chapter 5 onward, players gain the flexibility to switch between these jobs, with characters able to retain and use certain abilities across different job roles. There are a total of 20 different unlockable jobs in Yakuza: Like A Dragon, with an additional two jobs available with the purchase of paid DLC, bringing the total count to 22 jobs.
With jobs being the key feature of character development and increasing strength in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, players will want to optimize this growth in any way possible. Each different job features a separate EXP bar that contributes to raising that Job’s Rank, improving stats, and unlocking new skills along the way. Here’s everything players need to know about obtaining special accessories that boost Job EXP earned in Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
How Job EXP Boosting Accessories Work in Yakuza: Like a Dragon
To optimize job leveling in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, players will want to get their hands on each of the game’s Job EXP boosting accessories. These items increase the Job EXP of a specific Job by 50% when equipped on a player currently playing as that job.
During a player’s initial playthrough, it is possible to obtain duplicates of certain Job EXP-increasing accessories. When two identical Job EXP items are equipped, their effects will stack, greatly enhancing the job leveling process. The bonuses from the accessories are additive, so equipping two identical Job EXP accessories will result in the player gaining 2x Job EXP for that job.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon: All Unlockable Job Roles And Their Requirements
Yakuza: Like a Dragon features an eclectic mix of unlockable job roles — this handy guide will detail all of them, as well as their requirements.
All Job EXP Boosting Accessories and Where to Get Them
Here is a full list of every Job EXP Boost accessory, along with where to find each of these equippable items in Yakuza: Like A Dragon. Since it is possible to obtain a second of some of these items during the initial playthrough prior to beating the game, we have included where players can obtain a second of that item when applicable.
There are two Job EXP accessories that can be found inside locked Gold Safes. Both safes are located in buildings on Tenkaichi St. in Kamurocho, which the player cannot return to until Chapter 15. Players can retrieve a Dragonfish Tenegui from a Gold Safe found in the same building as Lullaby Mahjong and a Bullet of Memory from a Gold Safe inside New Serena.
Job EXP boost accessories that are exclusively Substory reward items can be obtained only once during the initial playthrough. In New Game+, however, Substories are reset, and the player will be able to obtain duplicates of those accessories which were awarded by substories once they’ve completed the Substory again in this game mode.

It is not at all possible to obtain a second Magic Lighter — the Hostess Job EXP boost item. This accessory is obtainable only through the Part Time Hero mission “Vegetable Delivery 4,” and Part Time Hero progress carries over into New Game+, so this mission cannot be completed a second time.
During the initial playthrough, players can gain access to Fumie’s Secret Shop, where they will encounter a merchant who sells seven Job EXP items along with other items. The shop can be found in the Commercial District, at the southern end of Sunrise St.
Before players can access Fumie’s Secret Shop, they must first visit Hello Work and assign Ichiban the Foreman job. This grants him the ability to demolish walls and barriers in specific areas of the game’s overworld and underground. Head to Sunrise St., where players can find a shop with a glowing pink awning. Ichiban can clear the barricade in front of the door, granting access to Fumie’s Secret Shop. Players can purchase a variety of helpful items from the old woman, including Gold Safe Keys and, of course, the Job EXP boosting accessories.
Other Methods of Increasing Job EXP in Yakuza: Like a Dragon
To maximize Job EXP gain, players will, of course, want to equip any EXP boosting accessories they have obtained, and also keep Kiwami Drinks on hand. These drinks can be purchased for 3000 yen from the red Lucky Soda Vending machines. Consuming a Kiwami Drink will apply a buff that increases Job EXP gained by 25%. Each character will have to drink a Kiwami Drink to gain its benefit.
You can carry only 5 Kiwami Drinks at any time, but you can keep as many as you’d like in your storage. The easiest way to stock up on drinks is to head to the Homeless Camp, which features a storage box, and purchase Kiwami Drinks from the nearby drink machine. Return to the Homeless Camp to unload your inventory and head back to the machine to grab more.
