Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ), the latest game from HoYoverse, is a fast-paced action RPG set in a futuristic urban fantasy world. As with many gacha games, players often consider rerolling to get a strong start by securing powerful characters from the beginning. This allows players to get to build characters they had their eyes on from the beginning, instead of waiting for them to appear in gacha gradually.

In some games, rerolling can be quite straightforward. However, rerolling in ZZZ can be particularly challenging and time-consuming. This guide will explore whether rerolling is worth it, how to do it, and which characters to aim for if players choose to embark on this lengthy process.

Is Rerolling Worth It in Zenless Zone Zero?

Rerolling in ZZZ is generally not recommended due to the significant time investment required. Each reroll attempt takes approximately 30-40 minutes, making it a tedious and laborious task. Additionally, there is no guest account option in ZZZ (despite needing to pick the character name later), meaning players must create multiple HoYoverse accounts and endure long dialogue options. This process is the same as in other HoYoverse games like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. For players who are already actively playing these games using the same HoYoverse account, it is more convenient to stick with their existing account for easy login through the Hoyoverse launcher, rather than having to relog daily with multiple accounts.

Even for players that do not particularly mind the relog and swap between accounts, with the uncertainty of future character performance, it might be more beneficial to progress naturally through the game. Considering that limited characters that come in upcoming patches, as well as good range of A-Tier (4-star) Agents players will be freely given, players will be able to tackle most of the content without needing to rely on certain 5-star options that exist on launch. Furthermore, in their first 50 standard pulls (40 Master Tapes since there is a 20% discount), players will be able to obtain a 5-star character. Despite it may not be the character they were aiming for, this is not an overall horrible amount of pulls to start with, considering that the game is promising over 100 pulls through mail and in-game events in the first version update, which will be enough to get 1 limited character, or even 2 if players are lucky.

However, if players are still determined to start with specific characters the following the reroll steps will unfortunately be necessary. For those aiming for limited characters like Ellen, be prepared for an even more extended reroll process involving event participation and simply playing the game and going through all of the launch content.

How to Reroll in Zenless Zone Zero?

If players decide to reroll in ZZZ despite the challenges, here are the steps on how to do it:

  1. Create and login to dummy account: Since there is no guest account option, players must create a new account each time they want to reroll. Players need to have many emails / Hoyoverse accounts prepared for this, since the chance of getting a 5-star character early on is 0.6%.
  2. Complete the Tutorial: Play through the initial tutorial with lengthy dialogues and cutscenes. This process will take roughly 30-40 minutes even if players use skip dialogue option, and will unlock Gacha function (Signal Search).
  3. Claim Initial Rewards: After finishing the tutorial, make sure to claim any initial rewards from mail, events, or beginner missions.
  4. Perform Initial Pulls: Claiming everything at a go will already allow players to have over 20 pulls. Use the pulls (20-30 pulls) to do the pulls on the standard banner. As 50 (worth 40 master tapes) pulls at least guarentees a 5-star standard character, if players simply want to get their desired standard character, and not getting it early necessarily, they can go ahead and get the intra-knot level to level 5. This only requires players to play a little more over the tutorial mission. It’s not recommended spend Polychromes (Primogem or Stellar Jade variant for ZZZ) for standard banner, since these can instead be used to pull limited-time Agents by converting them to Encrypted Master Tapes instead.
  5. Evaluate Results: If the desired character(s) is obtained, congratulations, otherwise, repeat the process from start.

Which Characters to Aim for?

When rerolling, it’s important to have a target list of characters. In Zenless Zone Zero, there are standard banner 5-star (S-Rank) Agents and also limited-time characters available for a short time period with first limited character being Ellen and Zhu Yuan as the second-part limited character. Given the game’s current state, it’s hard to predict which characters will be the best in the long run. However, here are some standard banner characters that could be useful early on:

  1. Rina: As versatile support character, Rina can fit in any team due to her utility, and is particularly useful in Electric team.
  2. Grace: Grace is an Anomaly focused character, in particular for Shock damage, and has great synergy with Anton and Rina.
  3. Soldier 11: Amazing Fire DPS unit. Although the launch content favors Ice and Electric, with better team synergies as more characters are released, she may prove to be the best DPS option from standard banner in the future.
  4. Lycaon: An Ice Stunner, particularly useful for completing combo chains effectively with characters like Ellen, as mono-element (as well as same organization) teams are beneficial. If planning to pull for Ellen – Lycaon can be a good option to aim for.
