6 Golden Boy

A Law School Dropout Embarks On a Journey Of Self-Discovery

golden-boy

Created by Tatsuya Egawa, Golden Boyis an ecchi comedic seinen manga that follows Kintaro Oe in his misadventures as a former law student. Readers see Kintaro attempt to make multiple jobs work for him, such as a job as a cleaner, a computer programmer, and more jobs that are nothing like law. He uses these experiences to supposedly understand the world and its complexities firsthand.

His charisma and carelessness lead to hilarious and awkward situations, usually involving Kintaro and ecchi elements. The manga does well at exploring the growth of Kintaro while also setting him in funny scenarios that will no doubt be relatable to many, and also having enough craziness to take the humor to the next level. Golden Boy is a great manga for students and a seinen audience in particular, as it can make the worry and stress of dropping out seem less daunting.

Meeting various wacky characters along the way, Hinamatsuri is a fun and silly manga.

Food is a common happenstance in any manga, but these titles will have readers working up an appetite!

Hinamatsuri has a very wholesome feel to it, despite the fact that one of the main characters, Nitta, is a yakuza member. Hina, the psychic girl, has very cute interactions with Nitta, who becomes a father figure to her throughout the manga, which is a very sweet part of this story. Additionally, Hina’s reluctance to go to school, picky-eating, and her annoyance with her best buddy Nitta all add to the delightful humor.

4 Golden Kamuy

Snowy Survival With a Hefty Sprinkle Of Comedy

The setting of a post-Japanese-Russo war doesn’t scream comedic, but Golden Kamuy is somehow a hilarious manga with great characters and a unique storyline. Golden Kamuy follows Saichi Sugimoto who is a veteran of the war and is attempting to find the lost treasure of the Ainu people, alongside a young Ainu girl named Aspira.

Golden Kamuy has a very rich background and lore, with great detail about what Japan would look like if a war with Russia ever occurred. It delivers on the comedic aspects too, which is probably not Golden Kamuy’s primary genre, but its hilarity is too much for it to not be labeled a comedy, at least as it’s sub-genre. The amazement of Aspira from Saichi’s schoolboy-like gags adds tremendously to the comedy, with there being an air of wholesomeness throughout.

3 One Punch Man

Hilarious Action-Packed Superhero Satirical Manga

One Punch Man manga covers 1-4

Created by Yusuke Murata, One Punch Man is one of the most popular comedic manga series ever. Combining the superhero theme with a highly satirical comedy element makes One Punch Man a sort of parody of many of the most famous superhero characters. With his enormous strength and unlimited wit, Saitama, the story’s main character, essentially becomes a hero for fun.

The story follows Saitama as he gets bored with being able to defeat every opponent with only one punch. He thus goes on a journey to find someone strong enough to challenge him. The battles which Saitama undertakes make many fans surprised to discover that One Punch Man is seinen and not shōnen, with the action aspect being comparable to some of the best action in shōnen manga. But it really is the humor of One Punch Man that makes it as great as it is.

2 Kaguya-sama: Love Is War

Wholesome And Hilarious High-School Romance

Kaguya Sama manga covers 1-3

The manga has a hilarious story about two elite students, Kaguya and Miyuki, in a very upper-class school attempting to get their other half to confess their feelings first.

1 Grand Blue (Grand Blue Dreaming)

Fun College Life Comedy With Bundles of Laughs

Best Seinen Comedy Manga Grand Blue

After Iori Kitahara moves to the Izu Peninsula, he begins life at his new college, attempting to fit in with the popular local college students. Specifically, Grand Blue by Kenji Inoue follows Iori and the Diving Club, with the whole manga having a theme of seaside life and ocean views. Iori lives above his uncle’s diving shop, which is aptly called “Grand Blue,” which gives readers an instant peek into Iori’s lifestyle.

The rambunctious escapades of the diving team and Iori are centered around the college days that many ex-students will likely relate to. In an American Pie fashion, readers see crazy drunk parties, naked antics, and the more explicit nature of college life. In fact, not much diving partakes in Grand Blue, which speaks volumes of the wackiness that exudes from this college-based classic.
