Shrines in Sea of Thieves act as underwater areas where players can explore, solve puzzles, and fight Sea Crawlers. Most Shrines have a lot of treasures inside them, allowing players to earn quite a lot of Reputation upon turning them in.

The Shrine of Hungering is one of the numerous Shrines in Sea of Thieves. This Shrine has a few puzzles that might look confusing at first but can take up quite a lot of time if a player messes up. Players can earn a commendation as well as a trophy/achievement for interacting with all of the journals in this Shrine.

Where To Find The Shrine Of Hungering In Sea Of Thieves

The Shrine of Hungering is located east of Shark Fin Camp on Q5 on the map. Upon arriving at the location you will see spiraling lights above you indicating the exact position where you have to dive into. After anchoring and putting the ship at a stop, you can take the necessary items, such as food, and head down into the water. If you are playing on the High Seas, then be careful, as other Pirate Ships might see your ship on top of a Shrine and decide to sink it. There is no way of protecting your ship while underwater, so you will have to take the risk.

If you are scared that your ship might sink or your loot might get stolen by other pirates, then you can go for the Safer Seas option, but this drastically reduces the amount of Reputation and Gold you earn after handing in the treasure to a company.

Make sure to have both the
Pistol
and
Sniper Rifle
equipped, as there are a lot of enemies that you will be fighting at range, plus a few puzzles that you will need to shoot at.

Keep swimming down towards the blue, glowing crystals, and the entrance should be through the massive bone pillars. Swimming slightly further, you will encounter the first enemy, which is a Shark. Three shots with your gun should do the trick, allowing you to proceed further ahead into the Shrine of Hungering.

Another thing to note is that if you arrive at this Shrine with the Coral Message in a Bottle, you can acquire the Breath of the Sea reward inside a room at the end of the Shrine. The Coral Bottles can be found on shorelines on any island or among ship wreckage.

Shrine of Hungering

First Journal in Shrine of Hungering in Sea of Thieves

After dealing with the first Shark at the entrance of the Shrine, you will need to head further in to spot a few skeletons on the ground. The one on the left has the journal in its hand.

2

The Warrior

Second Journal in Shrine of Hungering in Sea of Thieves

Proceed forward to find another Shark and the first puzzle in this Shrine. Make sure to reload your ammo here because you will need it. Swim up and out of the water to find a mural on the wall showing you statues and how they should be positioned. Dive into the water and shoot the statue, which has a gem in one hand and a trident in another once. Turn to the right and shoot the statue with the chains once. Swim back up and shoot the statue next to the mural with the Horn once to raise the water level. Use the Geyser to head up to a platform with a broken boat inside, which has an ammunition box and the second journal to the left of it.

3

The Warrior – Unmasked

Third Journal in Shrine of Hungering in Sea of Thieves

There should be another mural here that you can use to understand the positioning. You need to shoot the statue to the right of the boat with red coral in its hand twice, then turn left and shoot the statue with the yellow gem once. Turn a bit more left and shoot the statue with the chains twice. Turn around and look above you to find the final statue with the horn, which you need to shoot once. This will raise the water level again, and you will reach an area with a few skeletons. Head up the spine and then up the wooden ramp to find the third journal next to the wooden planks.

4

The High Priest

Fourth Journal in Shrine of Hungering in Sea of Thieves

Head across the bone steps and deal with the skeletons. You can now head further right, jumping across the steps to reach the fourth journal, which should be lying next to the blue coral.

5

A Great Evil

Fifth Journal in Shrine of Hungering in Sea of Thieves

Head back across the steps and use your weapon to shoot the entry device on top. Head inside and shoot the second device to open the water, and before heading inside, look down to find the last journal.

With that, you will have completed the Commendation for collecting all the Journals, and you can deal with the sharks in the final area of the Shrine. There are three or more Sharks in the room, so you will have to be quite careful, as they can take out your entire health bar in 2 attacks. The path behind you also gets locked out shortly, and opening it will require you to look toward the entry device and shoot at it.
