Pokemon GO Player’s Character Has a Sudden Growth Spurt

Reddit user Fearless_Wasabi_7727 recently found a problem that qualifies as both, having somehow managed to end up with a gigantic trainer avatar. They promptly shared the weird glitch with their peers, jokingly proclaiming that they had “mega-evolved” themselves. The Pokemon GO player did not elaborate on the circumstances leading up to this bug materializing. But they are not the only ones to have experienced it so far, with several other fans reacting to their predicament by sharing screenshots of their own problems with oversized trainer avatars.

Pokemon GO Giant Trainer Bug Might Have Been Caused by Late June 2024 Update

According to those subsequently emerged player testimonies, the problem with trainers suddenly becoming huge began materializing no later than the first week of July 2024. Given that time frame, the issue might have been caused by the Pokemon GO update 0.319.0, which all players received on either the 24th or 25th of June, depending on their country. The changelog attached to that patch did not mention anything beyond unspecified performance improvements and minor bug fixes, though attempts at the latter certainly could have caused additional problems, as is often the case in software development.

The newly discovered glitch isn’t listed on the game’s Known Issues page. Niantic also hasn’t given any other indication that it’s aware of it. Pokemon GO players who find themselves affected by this bug can report it to the developer by tapping the Help button in the top-right corner of the in-game Settings menu. Niantic doesn’t respond to individual issue reports, but does use them to determine how to prioritize individual bug fixes.

In this particular instance, the studio might opt to work on resolving the problem with giant trainers as soon as possible. That’s largely because the weird graphical glitch appears to be highly detrimental to gameplay, not least because huge character avatars clip through overworld map icons, making it difficult to catch mons and interact with Pokemon GO PokeStops.
