Fairy Tail is an underrated gem that perhaps had the misfortune of running alongside some of the most influential shonen shows in history. Still, it retains its place in anime infamy with a cast of sensational characters and a story that, while a bit hit-and-miss, is largely appreciated by the wider anime community.

12 Sherria Blendy

Sherria is a member of Lamia Scale and is the cousin of Sherry Blendy. She had a promising career as a mage with wind-like powers that are incredibly powerful. She has a close relationship with Wendy Marvell from Fairy Tail and even teamed up with her briefly when Fairy Tail broke up.

Sherria is potentially one of the most powerful mages in the whole series thanks to her third origin form, which enabled her to defeat the dark mage Dimaria. Sherria’s story is a little tragic, however, as she lost her magic as a consequence of her fight with Dimaria.

11 Kagura Mikazuchi

Kagura Uses Her Magic As A Support

Kagura Mikazuchi is a mage from Mermaid Heel and the younger sister to Simon, who died in the Tower of Heaven arc while protecting Erza. She is the strongest mage from her guild and has the ability to manipulate gravity.

Kagura’s main strength, though, is in her swordsmanship, which she is able to use quite effectively. She was able to dispatch Yukino, a powerful celestial wizard and the holder of two of the golden celestial keys. She was also able to cut through Erza’s adamantium armor with little trouble.

10 Wendy Marvell

Wendy Marvell is one of the newest members of Fairy Tail, having joined them from Cait Shelter, a guild that actually only had her and Carla as members. Wendy might not look like much, but she is a dragon slayer and can use dragon slayer magic.

She was instrumental in the defeat of Irene and was also able to buy some time during the fight against Dimaria with her dragon slayer powers. She was also a part of the team that finally defeated Acnologia along with the other dragon slayers. Wendy is still waiting on her first true solo win against an overwhelming opponent, but it’ll come soon enough.

9 Kyoka

Terrifying Powers To Amplify Pain

Kyoka is a demon from the book of Zeref. She has access to some terrifying powers, which she unleashes on her opponents. Her sadism leads her to torture Erza while trying to get information on Jellal.

Kyoka is able to intensify her target’s reception to pain, and she is also able to modify her target’s body as she sees fit. She single-handedly destroyed the dark guild Succubus Eye and was able to deprive Erza of all five of her senses.

8 Mavis Vermillion

The First Master Of Fairy Tail Is The Greatest Tactician

Fans were never really able to appreciate the strength of Mavis, who was the first Fairy Tail master. Her tragic backstory was explored in the series along with her fascinating relationship with Zeref.

Mavis is considered the greatest tactician that ever lived and is the creator of Fairy Law and and Lumen Histoire, both immensely powerful magic. Fairy Law has been used by Makarov against Jose Porla and took him out in one hit.

7 Ultear Milkovich

She’s Able To Unleash The Full Potential Of Others

Ultear is the daughter of Gray’s master, Ur, and was a former member of the magic council. Formerly a villain, she changed her ways and became an independent mage and, together with Jellal, started Crime Sorciere.

She is able to manipulate time, and this useful ability was seen during her battle with Dimaria. She was the one who was able to unlock Sherria’s full power and was more or less the one who enabled the Sky sisters to win such a tough battle.

6 Minerva Orland

The Most Powerful Member Of Sabertooth

Minerva was Sabertooth’s strongest member. She joined Succubus Eye and was recruited to Tartaros. She was eventually the one to kill Kyoka and would rejoin Sabertooth after mending her ways.

Her ability to manipulate space is incredible and makes her one of the most powerful mages in Fairy Tail. She is able to repel one of Natsu’s strongest attacks with ease and takes Erza to the brink.

5 Mirajane Strauss

She Can Literally Become Satan

In any conversation about the strongest mage in the Fairy Tail Guild, both Mirajane and Erza’s names always have to come up. Mirajane started the series as a damsel in distress, but this was before viewers learned of her immense magical powers.

Mirajane uses take over magic, which enables her to embody the soul of a demon and use its powers. She is also able to perform Satan soul, an incredible ability that enhances her powers. She was able to defeat Jacob, although he had his eyes closed the whole time.

4 Erza Scarlet

Erza Scarlet is the fiery redhead who is one of the S-class mages in Fairy Tail and one of the strongest characters in Fairy Tail. Erza has carried out feats that are mind-boggling, including a few that are considered contentious and suspiciously like plot armor.

Erza uses requip magic, which enables her to choose from a wide array of armors that all have various properties and make her incredibly strong. She was able to cut down Irene’s meteor and could summon 200 blades at once to take down Laxus’ lacrimas.

Brandish is overpowered. With the ability to alter the size of matter, she is able to enlarge or shrink anything, including whole nations. It is no wonder that the anime tries its best not to make her do battle too often, or it would be over in seconds.

Even without her magic, Brandish is no slouch, as she can handle hand-to-hand combat pretty well and also uses a knife expertly. Her story is fascinating, as it is revealed that she shares some deep ties with Lucy Heartfilia.

Dimaria is another of the Spriggan 12, and her ability lets her control time. But it is not limited to that, as she can use it to cause enemies’ bodies to remember every injury they have endured, which is something she did against Wendy.

She also has the god soul, which gives her the powers of a god, and she is practically indestructible in this form. It took a great sacrifice from Sherria to defeat Dimaria and an even greater evil in E.N.D. to break her in battle.

One of the best ways to identify an incredibly powerful character is when they are defeated not by brute force but by some other concession, which, in this case, was Irene turning her weapon on herself.
