Chris Pine was one of the actors rumored to play Hal Jordan in the upcoming Lanterns series before Kyle Chandler’s casting was announced. One artist shared fan art of Pine in character and he looked cool as Green Lantern.

Chandler has been confirmed to play Jordan in DCU’s Lanterns. However, prior to his casting, there were various speculations about who would play Hal Jordan in DC Universe’s anticipated Lanterns. There were claims that Josh Brolin, who played Thanos in multiple MCU films, was offered the role. However, the Avengers: Infinity War star reportedly declined, but among those on the shortlist were Pine and Timothy Olyphant. One artist used his creative juices to transform the Star Trek actor into Green Lantern, and Pine looked incredible for the role.

Artist 21xFour shared new fan art (which has since been removed from Instagram) of Pine rocking a black and green bodysuit, complete with his green glowing power ring on his right hand that gives him power and a matching green mask covering his eyes to keep his identity a secret. The artwork also included Pine portraying Hal Jordan as a test pilot for Ferris Aircraft, wearing a brown leather bomber jacket with his name, “Jordan,” on the left side of the chest area, a white T-shirt underneath, a pair of jeans, and brown leather boots. He looked cool while rocking Jordan’s casual look as a pilot. According to ComicBookMovie, there are various reports about his potential involvement in the series. Pine is not new to playing a character from DC Comics because he portrayed Steve Trevor in Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman movies. However, the movie was still under the DCEU (DC Extended Universe), which had been discontinued due to inconsistent storytelling and mixed critical reception.

In August, 21xFour also used the same concept for Tom Cruise. However, the work didn’t include Cruise rocking the green and black bodysuit. He only designed Cruise with Jordan’s pilot look and many approved of it, given the actor’s previous role as a naval aviator Maverick in Top Gun. However, the only concern about Cruise playing the character is his age; he seems too old for the role, so one suggested he could play an older version of the character. “Hal goddamn Jordan, played by Tom Cruise. [An] aviator and a risk taker. The man is born to play this role. At this point, he could be like an older Hal,” the fan commented. Although Pine and Cruise both looked incredible as Jordan, there’s no chance fans could see them playing the role because it has been confirmed that Chandler just said “Yes” to play the character, per Deadline.

DCU’s upcoming Lanterns series will feature two Lanterns– John Stewart and Hal Jordan. The anticipated show will follow their journey in “an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with Superman,” James Gunn and Peter Safran previously said, per Entertainment Weekly. There are many Lanterns in the DCU, but the series will be a terrestrial-based TV show. However, it will also feature other Lanterns from the Green Lantern Corps who will be looking over the Earth from space.

Chandler could be a great choice to play Hal Jordan in Lanterns because of his strong screen presence and leadership qualities, which fans observed in his portrayal of high school football coach Eric Taylor in the sports drama Friday Night Lights. Jordan is a luminary in the Corps and a great leader, which Chandler will surely pull off with his commanding presence. Also, Jordan is relatable due to his flawed character and reckless behavior. However, he remains heroic in the comics. Chandler’s charm and grounded nature could effectively humanize Jordan.

Lanterns has no official release date yet, but HBO has officially picked up the series.
