Key Takeaways

  • Play as Landless Adventurers in CK3 AGOT with Roads to Power DLC, allowing exploration without ties to titles.
  • Customize a Dragonrider and conquer realms with dragons in CK3 AGOT, combining Landless gameplay.
  • Start as iconic characters like Vargo Hoat or Daemon II Blackfyre, dictating wars or restarting rebellions.

Players who own the Roads to Power DLC for Crusader Kings 3 will be glad to know they can now play as Landless Adventurers in the Game of Thrones mod, CK3 AGOT. This allows them to go around Westeros or Essos fighting as sellsword companies, competing in grand tournaments, or simply exploring with no ties to a particular title.

Alongside this update, a new start date was also released, set during the events of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and allows players to step into the shoes of Ser Duncan the Tall. There are plenty of other great Landless Adventurers in CK3 AGOT and these are spread out over the various bookmarks.

5 Create A Custom Dragonrider

Start Out With Nothing But A Dragon Or Even An Egg & Conquer Westeros

Becoming a Dragonrider in CK3 AGOT is easily one of the most fun things about the mod, and with Roads to Power, players can combine this with Landless gameplay. To do so, create a custom Landless Adventurer and select the Dragonrider Trait.

When the game starts, players can then choose if they want an egg, a dragon horn, or a living dragon of any size. The world is then their oyster, and with a dragon, they will even have a special casus belli that allows them to conquer any realm.

4 Vargo Hoat ‘The Goat’ of The Brave Companions

Sellsword Companies Can Dictate Wars & This One Is Notoriously Vicious

Crusader Kings 3 CK3 AGOT Vargo Hoat

  • 284 AC – The Crowned Stag

There are plenty of sellsword companies available to start as in Essos, and fans of the A Song of Ice and Fire books will recognize many names. One of the most fun to play as is the Brave Companions, led by the infamously vicious Vargo Hoat. He is often known as ‘the Goat’ in reference to his birthplace of Qohor.

Due to the atrocities committed by the Brave Companions, players could have fun with the Freebooters Camp Purpose, partaking in criminal contracts and torturing prisoners they capture. Vargo Hoat is also known by some as ‘the Crippler’ for chopping off the hands and feet of these prisoners. Jaime Lannister is a notable victim. Vargo Hoat has all the fitting Traits for an evil playthrough, and even has his iconic lisp.

3 Daemon II Blackfyre

Restart The Blackfyre Rebellion Or Travel As Tourney Knight

Crusader Kings 3 CK3 AGOT Daemon II Blackfyre & Bittersteel

  • 209 AC – The Shadows of Ashford

Playing as a Blackfyre is always going to be fun, and in the new Shadows of Ashford bookmark for CK3 AGOT, it is now possible to play as Daemon II Blackfyre. With his uncle Bittersteel at his side, Daemon could try to avenge his father’s death and restart the Blackfyre Rebellion.

Another option is to travel incognito as a tourney knight, just as Daemon did in the Dunk & Egg books, under the name Ser John the Fiddler. This is certainly one of the most fun things to do as Landless Adventurers in CK3 AGOT and there are a lot of roleplay opportunities for Daemon.

2 Prince Viserys & Daenerys Targaryen

Try To Claim The Birthright Of These Two Exiled Targaryens

Crusader Kings 3 CK3 AGOT Prince Viserys & Daenerys

  • 284 AC – The Crowned Stag

In the aftermath of Robert’s Rebellion, two Targaryens were able to escape, Prince Viserys and the newly born Princess Daenerys. Players can now start as young Viserys, who has no land or title, and little gold to speak of. They will begin their journey in Pentos, and have many years to build up power and forge alliances.

Naturally, the plan is to eventually reclaim their Targaryen birthright, and because of this, they start out with the Legitimist Camp purpose. This gives them a few unique features to help them achieve their goals, but with Viserys being no more than a boy, things will not be easy. If things ever get really rough, they can sell their mother’s crown as Viserys was forced to do in the books.

1 Ser Duncan The Tall

Explore Westeros As The Hedge Knight, Compete In Tourneys & Train Egg As A Squire

Crusader Kings 3 CK3 AGOT Dunk & Egg Ser Duncan the Tall

  • 209 AC – The Shadows of Ashford

As the main character of the prequel series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is also being adapted for TV, it is of little surprise that Ser Duncan the Tall is one of the best Landless Adventures in CK3 AGOT. His adventure picks up in the aftermath of the Tourney at Ashford, where Ser Duncan proved his valor, while also gaining a rival for life in Aerion ‘Brightflame’.

At Dunk’s side, is Egg, who would go on to become Aegon V Targaryen, and the newly dubbed knight is charged with training the young boy as a squire while teaching him to be an honorable man. Of course, players can do whatever they like in their playthrough and potentially upend the history of Westeros, but it can also be fun to simply carry on with the adventuring spirit of Dunk and Egg, completing contracts and attending tournaments.
