It is fair to say that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is one of the most intriguing titles to come from the franchise in some time, with Treyarch having had an unusually-long four-year development cycle for the upcoming game. With the series having focused so extensively on the Modern Warfare sub-franchise in recent years, a move back to Black Ops has seemingly come at the perfect time.

As per the usual standard of the IP, the content of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is split into three distinct modes, with the title boasting unique experiences across its core multiplayer, single-player campaign, and exciting Zombies mode. Treyarch has stressed how Black Ops 6 has been developed with a return to tradition in mind, smartly blending elements of the newer CoD identity with some classic throwbacks, offering a wide-spanning range of unique features that fans will soon get to enjoy.

All the Currently Confirmed Features For Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Campaign

The campaign for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set during the 1990s, following Troy Marshall and iconic franchise character Frank Woods as they attempt to uncover a highly dangerous spy infiltration of the Central Intelligence Agency. Many of the events of Black Ops and Black Ops 2 will be relevant to the story of Black Ops 6, and players should expect a variety of high-octane linear missions, some with multiple paths of approach.

Call of Duty Black Ops 6’s Multiplayer Mode

There has also been a lot of buzz around the core multiplayer of Black Ops 6, with fans already getting a good idea of what to expect over the course of the game’s recent Beta weekends. The game will feature sixteen multiplayer maps at launch, with more content being added to the game through post-launch seasons and updates. In terms of mechanics, Black Ops 6 features a brand-new omnimovement system, the ability to take enemies hostage, and a wide range of fresh perks, weapons, equipment, killstreaks, and field upgrades.

In line with the game’s return to tradition, Black Ops 6 also features a classic prestige system, with ten prestiges and a prestige mastery mode, as well as all the classic CoD game modes that fans have come to expect. Thankfully, Black Ops 6 is smartly choosing to include the Gunfight game mode at launch, doing away with the post-launch wait for Gunfight that recent CoD titles have employed.

Black Ops 6‘s 16 launch maps are split between standard 6v6 experiences and Strike Maps, with Strike Maps being more intimate small-scale experiences that will be used primarily for unique multiplayer modes like 2v2 Gunfight. As things stand, the 12 6v6 maps available in Black Ops 6 at launch are:

  • Babylon
  • Derelict
  • Lowtown
  • Payback
  • Protocol
  • Red Card
  • Rewind
  • Scud
  • Skyline
  • Subsonic
  • Vault
  • Vorkuta

The four Strike Maps for Black Ops 6‘s launch are Gala, Pit, Sand House, and Stakeout, and fans will not have long to become familiar with these opening maps before even more experiences are added to the game following its release. For example, Treyarch recently excited fans by confirming that the iconic Nuketown map will be returning to the sub-franchise in Black Ops 6, officially being added to the game on November 1.

In terms of game modes, Black Ops 6 is understandably staying quite faithful to the wider CoD franchise, with the following classic modes being confirmed from day one:

  • Team Deathmatch
  • Domination
  • Hardpoint
  • Faceoff (A no-scorestreak variant of normal modes)
  • Gunfight
  • Search and Destroy

More modes will probably be announced closer to Black Ops 6‘s release, but Treyarch has already outlined one brand-new experience that will be coming to the title’s multiplayer. Black Ops 6 will debut the Kill Order gamemode, a standard 6v6 deathmatch experience that sees one player from each team randomly assigned as the High-Value Target, or HVT. Players must protect their own HVT while eliminating the enemy target, with points being given and games being won dependent on these objectives.

Black Ops 6’s Zombies Has Paid Respect To a Lot of Classic Features

Three Zombies from Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Zombies

The Zombies mode for Black Ops 6 is just as exciting, with Treyarch making more departures from the recent franchise formula of the survival mode. To start with, Black Ops 6 is moving further away from the open area Outbreak Zombies framework, with classic round-based Zombies experiences making a return. Black Ops 6 will feature two Zombies maps at launch, Terminus and Liberty Falls, with Terminus also featuring a return to dedicated playable Zombies characters as opposed to standard multiplayer operators. Alongside the perks and mechanics that are expected of a CoD Zombies experience, Black Ops 6 is also bringing back Gobblegum, with players naturally earning fresh Gobblegums by playing through Zombies maps.

Of course, one of the most unique and intriguing elements of Black Ops 6 is how the game will be available from day one on the Xbox Game Pass service, marking the start of a new close relationship between the massive FPS franchise and the Xbox platform. Players can still enjoy Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 across all the platforms that the series has been available on in recent years, with the game’s huge amount of features being reflective of the long development time that Treyarch has had to try and make this year’s CoD stand out above the rest.
