Animal Crossing: New Horizons Fan Shares Stunning Disco Elysium Recreation

One immensely patient Animal Crossing: New Horizons player recently undertook the effort of recreating numerous Disco Elysium locations in Nintendo’s hit game. The results of their work later made the rounds on social media, eliciting praise from many Disco Elysium fans.

Disco Elysium has been available on the Switch since October 2021, reaching Nintendo’s hybrid console two years following its original release. Although the narrative-driven RPG doesn’t have anything of substance in common with Animal Crossing: New Horizons, people who enjoy both games do exist.

One of them is Reddit user SpookySocks83, who has lately been spending a lot of time recreating the world of Disco Elysium in the latest Animal Crossing game. Their efforts have so far yielded over a dozen areas inspired by ZA/UM’s critically acclaimed RPG, including rooms themed after the Whirling-in-Rags cafeteria and attic, Harry’s trashed hostel room, and the backyard with the hanged man. The fan also recreated Evrart Claire’s office and Bird’s Nest Roy’s Martinaise pawnshop, both instantly recognizable to Disco Elysium fans.

As part of their design efforts, SpookySocks83 utilized both their own island home and the houses of their Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers. Since the game’s 2.0 update in November 2021, villager homes have been customizable, allowing players to remodel them after completing the main storyline of the Happy Home Paradise DLC. SpookySocks83’s designs incorporate an extremely wide variety of furniture, suggesting that they have been playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons for a fairly long time.

Reflecting on their achievement, SpookySocks83 revealed that they spent weeks on these designs, noting that they’ve been working on them “fairly regularly for about a month” whenever they had some time. Individual rooms took them between 30 minutes and three hours to complete, depending on the location they were aiming to recreate. They didn’t shy away from tackling even the most visually complex scenes, like the backyard dream sequence that Disco Elysium uses to explore Harry’s amnesia, which seems to have required quite a bit of effort to recreate within the confines of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

SpookySocks83’s designs emerged on the front page of the r/DiscoElysium subreddit in mid-November 2024, amassing hundreds of upvotes and earning widespread praise from the game’s fans. The player described the overall process of recreating the world of Disco Elysium in Animal Crossing: New Horizons as immensely fun, in addition to expressing happiness that so many people appreciate the end result of their efforts.
