  • Where to Start the Indigo Disk DLC

The Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Expansion Pass consists of two parts: The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk. Much like the preceding mainline Pokemon, Sword & Shield, both DLC stories are locked behind specific requirements. While Teal Mask can be started almost immediately, Indigo Disk requires some more work.

First off, the Blueberry Academy of Indigo Disk is a much stronger and more competitive region than Teal Mask’s Kitakami. If you’re still collecting Gym Badges in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet‘s base game, then the Indigo Disk will be unavailable until you meet the DLC’s requirements.

Those hoping to find out when they can download Indigo Disk have come to the right place, as this guide contains release times for the Pokemon DLC.

Where to Start the Indigo Disk DLC

To start the Indigo Disk, you will need to have done the following:

  1. Update your copy of Scarlet/Violet to version 3.0.0.
  2. Completed “Starfall Street,” “Path of Legends,” and “Victory Road” main quests.
  3. Completed “The Way Home” main quest.
  4. Completed the “Teal Mask” story.

If your game doesn’t automatically download, simply select the Pokemon Scarlet/Violet game on the Switch home screen, and choose to start the update. Another way to update is to move the “cursor” over the game and press (+), then choose Software Update. Depending on storage space, part 2 of the Expansion Pass (Indigo Disk) shouldn’t take long to download.

Once you have cleared Scarlet/Violet‘s main story and the Teal Mask story, you will receive a phone call from Director Clavell. Your character has been chosen to be an exchange student for Blueberry Academy, a school in Unova that specializes in Pokemon battling. After this, you will need to go to Naranja/Uva Academy. As soon as you walk through the doors, a cutscene will trigger, and you will meet Cyrano, the director of Blueberry Academy.

You don’t have to go to Unova immediately, but if you want to take off, speak to Cyrano and select “yes” to fly to the new region.

Before you can dive into the Academy itself, you will meet and battle against one of the Academy’s BB Elite Four members, Lacey. At Blueberry Academy, they specialize in Double Battles, which were a one-time occurrence (Montenevera’s Gym) in Paldea.

You can return to Paldea or Kitakami by opening the map with Y-button, and then tabbing over with R and L-button.

Before you can go to the actual Academy itself, Cyrano will insist that you and Lacey have a Pokemon battle. As a warm-up battle in Indigo Disk, she won’t have a full team. Instead, she’ll use three Pokemon.

The levels of Lacey’s Pokemon will give you an idea of how challenging the trainers and Pokemon are going to be in the Indigo Disk. If you’re over-leveled, you can easily 1HKO some of her Pokemon, but the trainers at Blueberry Academy won’t hesitate to target your Pokemon’s type weaknesses, so be careful.

Here’s what you should keep in mind when battling Lacey for the first time:

  1. Plusle and Minun work best together thanks to their Plus and Minus Ability, which enhances their Special Attack by 1.5x when they’re out on the battlefield together. Thus, it’s best to take one of them out as soon as possible.
  2. As Electric-type Pokemon, they’re weak to Ground-type moves. However, if your Pokemon is faster and exploits their weak Defense, you can easily take them out.
  3. Take caution of Plusle and Minun’s Discharge attack, as it can very easily paralyze you each time it hits.
  4. When one Pokemon goes down, she’ll send out her level 72 Excadrill. This Pokemon is a Ground/Steel-type, so you can exploit its weaknesses by using Fire, Fighting, or even Ground-type moves. While not as fast as her Plusle and Minun, her Excadrill has some type coverage moves that can take care of its opponents.
