Avalanche Software’s Hogwarts Legacy is full of things to do. From exploring the halls of Hogwarts Castle to venturing out into its vast open world in search of fantastic beasts, Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t shy away from content, and that even includes side quests. While Hogwarts Legacy‘s side quests aren’t the most notable of its features to write home about, there are a few here and there that offer an intriguing and worthwhile break from the main story and other demanding activities. One such side quest, in fact, may have teased Hogwarts Legacy 2 content.

There has been no official confirmation whether Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in development, but it arguably needs no confirmation. Hogwarts Legacy was such a financial success that Avalanche and Warner Bros. would be leaving money on the table not to develop a sequel. As such, assuming Hogwarts Legacy 2 is indeed in development, it’s worth examining how one of Hogwarts Legacy‘s most charming side quests could have teased content in the sequel, and what that content could entail.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Could Take Players Underwater

Mer-ky Depths Is One of Hogwarts Legacy’s Best Side Quests

The side quest in question is Hogwarts Legacy‘s “Mer-ky Depths” quest, which tasks players with retrieving an item for Nerida Roberts. What makes this quest so special, however, is the fact that it has players dive underwater — something no other quest in the game requires. Nerida, who considers herself “Liaison to the Merpeople,” recently left a gift for the Merpeople, and they left her one in return. The only problem is that Nerida doesn’t know how to swim, and the gift the Merpeople left for her is in one of their caves, accessible only by first diving underwater. She attempted to tell them she couldn’t swim, but her lack of skill in Mermish left the Merpeople not understanding her. As a result, she asks the player to retrieve the gift for her.

To retrieve the gift, players must first swim out from the dock where Nerida is and dive into a specific spot in the water. When they emerge, they find themselves in a cave where they are required to solve a puzzle. Once the puzzle is solved, a chest is revealed that contains a Mermish Artifact — the gift the Merpeople left Nerida. After that, they need only return the artifact to Nerida to complete the quest. It’s one of Hogwarts Legacy‘s best side quests and is unique enough that it could have teased underwater content in a sequel.

Mer-ky Depths Could Have Teased Underwater Exploration in a Sequel

If Hogwarts Legacy allowed players to go underwater, perhaps Hogwarts Legacy 2 would do the same, only on a much more extensive level. After all, it wouldn’t make much sense to feature something like diving underwater for an artifact only once in the game if it wasn’t meant to open the door for more content in the future. There’s also the giant squid that is both referenced and seen in Hogwarts Legacy, which could be another sign of underwater content in Hogwarts Legacy 2. It would be interesting if players were able to swim underwater in Hogwarts Legacy 2 to find valuable treasure, meet Merpeople, or even speak with or battle the giant squid.

There are more than enough opportunities for Hogwarts Legacy 2 to do something drastic with its content, assuming it is in development, and allowing players an opportunity for underwater exploration would be a welcome feature. Underwater exploration in Hogwarts Legacy 2 could only serve to add an extra bit of fantasy to the already fantastical world, especially if players had the chance to meet other creatures like Merpeople.
