A passionate fan shared their custom fossil rug inspired by Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The rug, which is a faithful and stunning recreation of a fossil from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, looks like it was ripped straight out of the cozy, town-building/simulation video game and could make fans want one of their own.

Nintendo games often garner a passionate fanbase, and the Animal Crossing series is no exception. Over the years, Animal Crossing has become a flagship title for Nintendo, with the series’ roots dating all the way back to 2001. The original Animal Crossing was released on the legendary Nintendo 64, with future iterations of the franchise winding up on iconic Nintendo consoles such as the GameCube, Wii, and most recently, the Nintendo Switch. Animal Crossing practically defined what it meant for a video game to be “cozy.” Flash forward to 2024, and Nintendo’s Animal Crossing series is one of the most celebrated video game franchises ever with a dedicated fanbase behind it.

One fan’s dedication to the series manifested itself in a rug designed to look like a fossil, one of the series’ trademark items. Reddit user Gandostar shared an image of the rug, receiving nearly 3k upvotes and over 60 comments. Animal Crossing crafts are nothing new, but an actual, usable rug really shows just how creative players can be.



How Long Did The Rug Take To Complete?

When players find a fossil, they have the option of bringing it into the museum for donation. Fossils are one of many items players will discover during their time in any Animal Crossing game, and they can be sold for Bells or be used in the Museum. Here, Blathers, one of the many NPCs in Animal Crossing, will take a look and tell players what the item actually is. The creator states that they are a huge fan of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, claiming it was “inevitable” that they would end up making a rug based on the game. However, if players feel inspired to make their own fossil rug, be warned. According to the creator, this fossil rug took around eight hours of work to complete.

Animal Crossing promotes creativity, allowing players to fully design their own town with the help of hundreds of unique items and dozens of useful tools. The Animal Crossing series has stretched over two decades, with an upcoming sequel being rumored. There’s a story mode present in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but for a lot of players, the near-limitless options for creativity are what brings them back day after day.
