When players finally reach Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3, there’s one major obstacle left that stands between them and the city of Baldur’s Gate itself: Wyrm’s Rock Fortress. To continue, players must find a way into the stronghold.
Fortunately, there are a few methods players can use to gain access. Two quests can provide passes that the gate guards won’t ignore, going to jail can get players onto the island, and spells like Bestow Flight and Dimension Door can bypass the drawbridge entirely. This Baldur’s Gate 3 guide will explain how to sneak into the fortress without the need for powerful magic.
Updated November 10th, 2023: Players progressing through Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3 will eventually come to an imposing structure called the Wyrm’s Rock Fortress. This massive castle stands across a bridge and is heavily guarded from the front. Players who want to gain access to the building will need to sneak into it by taking one of two paths to enter the structure. Once players know where to go, it’s not difficult to get into Wyrm’s Rock Fortress. To better help players gain access to Wyrm’s Rock Fortress in BG3, the following guide now has a video attached.
A Leap of Faith
After dealing with the South Span Checkpoint, players can walk straight up to the guards at the drawbridge that leads to Wyrm’s Rock. Just to the right of the drawbridge is a ladder that leads to a lower section of the bridge. Take this ladder down, then go over to the northeast corner. Players may notice that the railing in the corner has broken off.
Just north of this area is a green path that players can jump to. This leap will cause around 40 to 50 damage to whomever tries it, but at this point in the game even a Sorcerer or a Wizard can survive such a fall. Still, players are best off using a scroll or potion of Feather Fall to avoid this damage. Misty Step also has enough range to reach this path, and players can use a Jump ability to reach a higher spot that will only deal around 30 to 40 damage.
The Long Climb
After reaching the ground, players have two ways into the fortress. First, the party can go around the east side of the keep to find a crack in the wall that leads to the prison. This isn’t the best method since it leads to a part of the prison where players aren’t supposed to be. However, entering and then exiting the prison area is a good way to gather any party members left behind on the bridge.
Instead, the way forward is on the west side of the keep. Players will find a wooden platform here, and the party can climb a set of vines from the platform to reach a balcony. The balcony door is locked, but it’s also wooden and only Sturdy.
Once inside, players will spot a Flaming Fist patrolling the room and two unlocked doors leading to the Audience Chamber. The party doesn’t need permission to be in this room, but the Fist will get angry if they spot someone trying to open the inner doors. Fortunately, a sneaking character can open the door while the Fist is looking the other way.
When the party enters the Audience Chamber, a cutscene will start. This is the same cutscene players will see no matter how they got into Wyrm’s Rock, and Gortash will always offer the same deal. What happens next is up to the player, because the stealthy road into Wyrm’s Rock Fortress has effectively ended.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on macOS and PC, and is coming to PS5 on August 31.
