  • Xbox fans eagerly await possibility of older Call of Duty games coming to Game Pass.
  • Rumor has it that Call of Duty games will be announced for Game Pass at the June showcase.
  • With the potential release of CoD games on Game Pass, Xbox fans can look forward to more exciting gaming news in the near future.

Microsoft may be planning to release a batch of older Call of Duty games on Game Pass in the near future, according to a new report. If this rumor ends up being true, it could suggest that Activision Blizzard’s extensive back catalog could come to Xbox’s subscription service sooner rather than later. Call of Duty might just be the tip of the iceberg.

After Xbox officially acquired Activision Blizzard King back in October 2023, fans of the platform have been looking forward to seeing the benefits of the acquisition bear fruit. Perhaps the number one thing most Xbox gamers were anticipating from this deal is the arrival of ABK games on Game Pass. This would be a big deal for many gamers because, prior to the acquisition, Activision games typically did not come into the service. In addition, being able to play titles like the newest Call of Duty and Diablo games on Game Pass day-one would save some people a lot of money. Unfortunately, though, Xbox has yet to fully integrate ABK’s portfolio into the Game Pass library, with Diablo 4 being the only Activision Blizzard game to land on the service so far. Luckily for Xbox fans, though, that could be changing very soon.

According to Insider Gaming, “Xbox is gearing up for an announcement on its back catalog” of Activision Blizzard games at the upcoming June Xbox showcase. Henderson elaborates that this year’s unannounced Call of Duty game, reportedly titled Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War, might not be the only CoD-related announcement in the summer. This means that Call of Duty could very well be at the forefront of Xbox’s June showcase, with both an update on this year’s CoD game and the addition of past CoD games on Game Pass.

Earlier this year, Microsoft confirmed that it was planning to release more Activision Blizzard games on Game Pass. When the time comes, it will be interesting to see how Microsoft will go about announcing these games coming to their subscription service. If CoD games are announced for Game Pass at the summer Xbox showcase, then perhaps they will be shadow dropped there. Microsoft is no stranger to shadow drops. After all, in the past, they released a significant portion of Bethesda’s back catalog of games onto Game Pass during an Xbox-Bethesda roundtable livestream. If something similar happens with Activision, it wouldn’t be all that surprising.

Whether Xbox fans will finally be able to play some of the best Call of Duty games on Game Pass only a few months from now remains to be seen. Either way, exciting times are ahead for all gamers, whether they’re Call of Duty fans or not. Even with E3 long gone, there are still plenty of summer gaming showcases that are coming up soon. Geoff Keighley’s 2024 Summer Game Fest already has a date locked in for June 7th, 2024, while Ubisoft has also confirmed plans to hold its own showcase on June 10th. Meanwhile, Sony is rumored to be holding a May PlayStation showcase as well. It’s safe to say that Call of Duty games on Xbox Game Pass will not be the only potential major reveal to look forward to in the near future.
