  • The new map is for Escort and Control game modes.
  • Santa Sena Border Crossing was a controversial map from Modern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty players are criticizing the new XDefiant map, Daytona, claiming that it is a copy of Modern Warfare 2’s Santa Sena Border Crossing. The new XDefiant map is an Escort and Zone Control-specific map that is being mocked due to the overall layout being somewhat similar to that of Border Crossing, which itself was heavily disliked by the community.

XDefiant seems to be destined to live in the shadows of Call of Duty. Even prior to the first-person shooter’s release earlier this year, it already had immense pressure on its shoulders as many labeled Ubisoft’s new IP as the “Call of Duty killer.” While the shooter hasn’t managed to take out the giant that is Call of Duty, it did manage to win around plenty of players when it confirmed that it would have no skill-based matchmaking within its casual playlists, something that has been a controversial topic within the FPS community for many years.

Rumor: XDefiant Leak Reveals New Content Coming in Season 2

Recent datamine reveals new and upcoming content for XDefiant Season 2, giving players clues about what to expect from Ubisoft’s free-to-play shooter.

Shortly after Ubisoft revealed XDefiant’s new map, Call of Duty players took to Twitter to mock the new map and claim that it is a copy of Santa Sena Border Crossing from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. But with an ex-Call of Duty developer at the helm, it’s no surprise that XDefiant is continuing to draw comparisons to Activision’s massive shooter. While Ubisoft did take some shots of its own at Call of Duty, Overwatch, Fortnite, and many more during a promotional video last month, Call of Duty fans are getting their own back by claiming that the new XDefiant map is mimicking the Call of Duty map.

Call of Duty Players Call Out New XDefiant Map

While XDefiant has only just received a brand-new update, Ubisoft also confirmed that a new multiplayer map would be released on August 1 at 10AM PT. The map, which is called Daytona, will only be available in XDefiant’s Escort and Zone Control game modes and was inspired by Ubisoft’s racing franchise, The Crew. The trailer for the map received a positive response from the community, with players expressing their eagerness to jump into this vibrant new map. But once Call of Duty players got ahold of the announcement, it all went downhill.

CharlieIntel said on Twitter that XDefiant was “making [its] own version” of Santa Sena Border Crossing. The map was heavily disliked by the community, mainly due to the abundance of explodable vehicles in the center of the map. Prominent Call of Duty leaker and insider TheGhostOfHope also took to Twitter and said, “Welcome back Santa Seña Border Crossing.” But XDefiant players were quick to defend the map, claiming that it only resembles the Modern Warfare 2 map due to it being specific to Escort and Zone Control.

There’s no denying that the map has some resemblance in terms of overall shape and design, but a further look at Daytona shows that this is drastically different. Santa Sena Border Crossing is a gritty, simple map, while Daytona is much more vibrant and has a completely different aesthetic with a plethora of different buildings and spots to hide behind.
