A major leak account has suggested that players waiting for the Call of Duty: Warzone map, Verdansk, may have a while longer to wait before it becomes playable again. Verdansk was the very first Call of Duty: Warzone map, and holds a special place in many fans’ hearts.

As the official Battle Royale mode of the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty: Warzone has proven to be an enduring staple of the series since its introduction in 2020. This is in part because the mode is highly accessible as a free-to-play title. Even after Warzone was relaunched in 2022 to take advantage of updated tech and mechanics, fans have looked to it and its steady rotation of content as a throughline connecting the many Call of Duty franchise titles together. Even now, Warzone adds a sense of value to the franchise, as fans can take crossover and promotional skins across both Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone.

The longevity of Call of Duty: Warzone has allowed fans to develop nostalgia for older iterations of the game. In this case, fans continually call for the return of Verdansk years after it was destroyed in a climactic event called The Last Hours of Verdansk. Since then, hints, leaks, and announcements have all pointed to an eventual reissuing of the beloved map. Unfortunately, if leaker BobNetworkUK is to be believed, the return to Verdansk may be delayed.

Leak Suggests Call of Duty: Warzone Verdansk Map May Return in 2025

Earlier rumors from late 2023 had pegged the return of Verdansk to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 as part of its Season 1 content drop. However, the Tweet from BobNetworkUK has Verdansk coming back significantly later, as part of the “mid-lifecycle” of Black Ops 6. If the rumor is true, given Black Ops 6‘s launch date of October 25, 2024, Verdansk’s return could be set for sometime in 2025 at the earliest.

The same tweet suggests that developer Treyarch anticipates the disappointment from players at this potential news. The current Call of Duty: Warzone map, Urzikstan, will instead receive additional gameplay and map updates, including Ranked Play, as compensation. BobNetworkUK also mentioned in a separate post that Treyarch will debut a new map called “Area 99” for the Resurgence game mode sometime during Black Ops 6‘s term as the marquee Call of Duty title. The popularity of Resurgence is such that the upcoming Call of Duty: Warzone Season 4 Reloaded update is adding a Mutation Resurgence variation.

Though players hoping for a return of one of the franchise’s most iconic maps may be disappointed, it looks like there will still be much for Call of Duty fans to look forward to as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 takes the reins from Modern Warfare 3 and further updates to Warzone trickle in.
