Glen Schofield, creator of Dead Space and former CEO of Sledgehammer Games, has hinted that he has been hard at work on something new and exciting in gaming. While his most recent venture with the poorly received release of The Callisto Protocol disappointed audiences, fans are excited to hear that Schofield is once again working on a new gaming project.

One of the most popular sci-fi horror games of all time, Dead Space is a third-person survival horror game that features protagonist Isaac Clarke battling grotesque monsters while trying to overcome psychosis. The game kicked off a successful run for Glen Schofield at Sledgehammer Games before he branched off and founded Striking Distance Studios, the developer behind The Callisto Protocol.

The Game Awards 2023 Snubbed Dead Space in a Disappointing Way

The Game Awards acknowledged Dead Space’s remake in the Best Audio Design category, though it arguably deserved a nomination elsewhere, too.

After the release of The Callisto Protocol in December 2022, Glen Schofield took some time away from game development, but he recently shared on social media that he has in fact been “extremely busy” while working on “something…new and exciting.” Schofield is best known as the creator and producer of Dead Space, which is considered by many to be one of the best horror video games of all time. Unfortunately, his latest sci-fi horror release, The Callisto Protocol, was less than satisfactory for many players and left some questioning Schofield’s creative future. With this latest tease, however, fans are once again looking forward to Schofield’s next big venture in gaming. Schofield noted that he will be sharing more details after the New Year, so interested fans will want to stay tuned.

Recent years have seen a major uptick in AAA horror game releases, with the remakes of Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space proving to be massively successful. Other indie horror titles, such as Lethal Company and Phasmophobia, have shown that fans of both single-player and multiplayer gaming have a desire for horror experiences. If Schofield is working on a new horror game, there is a prevalent audience ready to sink its teeth into a new launch. Since Schofield left Striking Distance Studios, it is difficult to say if this upcoming project will be with an existing studio or if Schofield is once again looking to venture out on his own.

As horror fans await more AAA game remakes, players are excited to see a popular name within the genre announcing a new project. Glen Schofield’s work on Dead Space helped to kick off a major franchise in gaming, so horror audiences may want to keep an eye on his future endeavors.
