The first Episode of Destiny 2 following the demise of the Witness in The Final Shape sends players on a quest to Nessus, where they must uncover why the local Vex on the planetoid have been behaving strangely. To help with that, players will need the help of Failsafe, the AI of the downed Exodus Black colony ship, and her ability to research the Vex with a high degree of familiarity.

In order to help Failsafe with Vex problem, players need to collect data and find various planetary samples on Nessus, including Organic Specimens. These are pretty easy to get, and unlike other activities in this episode, you won’t have to reach the max light level in Destiny 2: The Final Shape just for the chance to obtain them.

How To Get Organic Specimen In Destiny 2

The Mineral Processing Triumph in Destiny 2 Echoes

Organic Specimens are obtained by gaining reputation points and increasing Failsafe’s Vendor Rank at the HELM. You can do this by participating in the Breach Executable or Enigma Protocol activities in Destiny 2. Anything related to Episode 1: Echoes will also contribute to your vendor ranking with Failsafe.

Keep in mind that Organic Specimens are different from Radiolite Samples. The latter can be obtained by exploring areas and activating Planetary Pistons during Breach Executable runs, and you may find some laying around Nessus as you patrol around the area. Radiolite Samples can be donated to Failsafe to gain more Echoes rewards, like the new weapons and armor sets from the Episode.

Players can get three Organic Specimen from Failsafe’s first rank rewards track. You can get two more by completing the following Triumphs:

  • More Like Research Bae: Complete all of Failsafe’s research project quests.
  • Mineral Processing: Deposit Radiolite Samples at Failsafe’s Radiolite bay.

You can unlock both Triumphs as you continue to play through Destiny 2’s Echoes episode. Expect the research project quests to become available as the weeks go by.

What Are Organic Specimen For?

The Semitone Shift ship in Destiny 2

As of writing, there are no practical uses for Organic Specimen so far. However, judging by how previous seasons in Destiny 2 have worked, players can expect these items to be tied to one of the secret triumphs included in Episode 1: Echoes. A quick glance at the Collections tab suggests that collecting all five Organic Specimens will unlock Semitone Shift, a new ship that shares a very similar aesthetic to the Echoes armor sets. If the Specimens are indeed related to Triumphs, then players will also need them to unlock the Intrepid title.
