  • Bungie quickly fixes a recent Enhancement Core exploit with the Khvostov auto rifle, disappointing players who enjoyed the farming method.
  • Players can still obtain enhancement cores through traditional methods and the new Pathfinder mechanic introduced in The Final Shape expansion.
  • Despite frustrations, Bungie’s fast response to player-friendly bugs shows their commitment to addressing issues promptly.

Bungie announces that it is providing a fix for Destiny 2 players using the legendary version of the Khvostov auto rifle to gain a larger than expected number of Enhancement Cores after pulling it from Collections. It’s been a rollercoaster week for Bungie, with the highly anticipated Final Shape expansion finally launching after a 6-month delay from its original February 2024 date. However, things did not go according to plan on June 4, as the weekly Destiny 2 reset was supposed to signal the arrival of the expansion. For many players, server issues plagued the experience, preventing most from logging in or being able to play the new content without being kicked back to orbit.

Thankfully, the issues have largely been addressed at this point and fans have been able to go through the Final Shape and check out all the new content on offer. As expected, Destiny 2 players have managed to find some farming methods that Bungie may not have originally intended. Including XP farms, players have discovered that pulling the legendary version of the returning Khvostov auto rifle from collections and then dismantling it awards a substantial amount of enhancement cores. Essentially, players could spend 1 enhancement core to pull the weapon from collections, then earn 7 for dismantling it.

Destiny 2’s Most Iconic Exotic Weapon Has Competition in The Final Shape

The Destiny franchise may be known for its Gjallarhorn rocket launcher, but a new Exotic weapon has arrived in The Final Shape to challenge it.

With legendary shards being removed from Destiny 2 in The Final Shape update, Enhancement Cores have become an even more important resource, so players were thrilled by this new farming method. However, Bungie caught wind of it and quickly announced that it was removing the ability to pull the Legendary version of the rifle from Collections. Until a full fix is issued in a future update, any players who dismantled all copies of the legendary weapon will no longer be able to acquire the exotic version. Naturally, fan reaction to the announcement has been less than positive.

Destiny 2 Fan Reactions to the Quick Fix

Naturally, many fans were disappointed by how quickly Bungie moved to address the popular exploit. While this behavior wasn’t likely intended, players pointed out this was another instance of how fast Bungie works to address player-friendly bugs, when bigger issues seemingly take a longer response time. Fair or not, many looked back at the rough launch for The Final Shape taking, what many fans felt, a long time to address the various errors and server issues that plagued the day one experience for most. Ultimately, frustration seems to stem from the fact that this exploit helps players with limited time to play gain a resource that is very important for upgrading gear.

Although Bungie may be closing this loophole, players can still earn enhancement cores through traditional means like random drops from dismantling legendary weapons as well as the new Destiny 2 Pathfinder mechanic. Introduced alongside The Final Shape, Pathfinder replaces the usual ritual challenges and bounty systems, giving players more control over the types of activities they want to play. Completing nodes awards resources, items, XP, engrams, and sometimes, a new exotic weapon called Ergo Sum.
