Right as you enter the realm of The Lands Between, Elden Ring greets you with a glorious view of the Erdtree from the more or less peaceful Limgrave. However, such lush green environments are limited to this area only. As one begins their journey, they will soon discover the rotted lands of Caelid, flooded forests of Liurnia, and golden lands of Altus Plateau leading to the cold and frigid Mountaintops of the Giants. However, many players might not know about another snowy region well hidden in Elden Ring.
The Consecrated Snowfield is tucked away in the lower level of the Mountaintops of the Giants. Accessing this area is necessary to reach Miquella’s Haligtree, where players can confront Malenia, one of the game’s toughest and most iconic bosses. To reach the Consecrated Snowfield, players need to collect both halves of the Haligtree medallions and use the Secret Medallion option at the Grand Lift of Haligtree. This unlocks the Hidden Path to the Haligtree, eventually leading to the Consecrated Snowfield. Here’s a detailed guide on obtaining both Haligtree Medallions and reaching the Consecrated Snowfield in Elden Ring.

How to Get Right Half of Haligtree Medallions
The right half of the Haligtree Medallion becomes accessible early in the game. To get the right Haligtree Medallion, players have to talk to Albus, an albinauric hiding in the Village of the Albinaurics beneath the hollow plateau in the southwest of Liurnia of the Lakes. To reach this village, head east from the Liurnia Lake Shore site of grace until you encounter a poisonous swamp beneath a massive plateau. Proceed to the Village of the Albinaurics grace site, and then pass by the Depraved Perfumer enemy to locate Albus, who is in disguise as a pot. The pot is easily identifiable by its glowing aura.
Strike the pot to reveal Albus, initially frightened and pleading for mercy. After a second conversation, he will entrust players with the right half of the Haligtree Medallion, urging them to protect it and deliver it to Latenna. Although the latter is optional, choosing to do so allows players to acquire information about the second half and a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone upon completing Latenna’s questline.
How to Get to the Grand Lift of Rold
The left half of the Haligtree Medallion is located in the Sol Castle of the Mountaintops of the Giants. To reach this location, players must first gain access to the Grand Lift of Rold. This lift becomes accessible only after players have defeated Morgott the Omen King. After defeating Morgott and experiencing Erdtree’s rejection, obtain the Rold Medallion from Melina by resting at the Elden Throne grace site. Teleport to the Avenue Balcony site of grace in Leyndell and take the stairs going up in the south. Follow the path going northeast to reach a massive door. Open this door and proceed past all the misbegottens and perfumers to find a lift.
Take the lift and then head straight east to find a second lift, which takes you to the Forbidden Lands. Safely traverse through this area to find the Grand Lift of Rold. Just before the lift, a Black Blade Kindred boss will swoop down on you. Simply ignore it and head for the Grand Lift of Rold grace site. After resting at the grace site, you can use the Rold Medallion at the lift and reach the Mountaintops of the Giants to begin the search for the left half of the Haligtree Medallion.
How to Get Left Half of Haligtree Medallion
The left half of the Haligtree Medallion is locked behind the Commander Niall boss fight in Castle Sol. To reach Castle Sol, players must travel to the Freezing Lake in the northern part of the Mountaintops of the Giants. From the Freezing Lake grace site, ascend the hill and continue heading west until encountering giant skeleton spirits. Just a little ahead of them, there will be a Death Rite Bird boss. Players can simply ignore these enemies and continue heading downhill toward the northeast to find Sol Castle.
On the rooftop of Sol Castle, players will have to battle Commander Niall, a stronger and much more powerful variant of Commander O’Neil found in Caelid. Instead of Scarlet Rot, Commander Niall uses lightning attacks when his summoned Banished Knights go down. He is one of the most challenging boss fights, so be prepared for a difficult encounter. If he proves too strong, consider using a Bewitching Branch on his summoned spirits to turn them into your minions. Players also have the option to summon their own spirit ashes to assist in the fight. After defeating Niall, head to the upper part of the rooftop by using a lift to find the left half of the Haligtree Medallion next to a spirit.

When looking to wield the best Quality weapons in Elden Ring, players can’t go wrong with these choices.
How to Use Haligtree Medallions and Reach the Consecrated Snowfield
After claiming both Haligtree Medallions, teleport to the Grand Lift of Rold and head to the platform. You can now scroll to find a second option for hoisting the secret Haligtree Medallions. After the cutscenes, the lift will take players deep beneath to the Hidden Path to the Haligtree.
The Hidden Path to the Haligtree is a confusing mess of a dungeon, but players interested in just reaching the Consecrated Snowfield need not worry about the mazes. After leaving the lift, head straight for the door and take the staircase with Vulgar Militants guarding it. Players can sprint past them towards the narrow path, but be careful of the Giant Land Octopus hanging on top. Follow the path ahead to find a grace site, followed by the door opening to the Consecrated Snowfields.
What to do in Consecrated Snowfield
Compared to other regions, Consecrated Snowfield might appear small, but it is filled with dungeons, strong bosses, and unique armaments and spells to enhance different character builds in Elden Ring. Here are the major places to explore and things to collect during your stay in Consecrated Snowfield:
- Solve the puzzle in Ordina, Liturgical Town: Players can enter the evergaol in Ordina, Liturgical Town to solve a torch puzzle and unlock the teleporter to Miquella’s Haligtree.
- Defeat the Putrid Avatar near Minor Erdtree: This boss drops the Thorny Cracked Tear (boosts consecutive attacks) and Ruptured Crystal Tear (causes the user to explode).
- Yelough Anix Tunnel – Explore this tunnel to fight Astel, Stars of Darkness (non-remembrance variant) and obtain the Meteorite of Astel spell.
- Yelough Anix Ruins – This location contains one of the most powerful Frenzied Flame incantations – Unendurable Frenzy.
- Portal to Mohgwyn Palace: Players who haven’t completed Varee’s questline can use this portal to reach Mohgwyn Palace.
- Wandering Mausoleum: This mausoleum is found in the northwest corner of Consecrated Snowfield, next to the Apostate Derelict.
- Cave of the Forlorn: The boss in this cave drops the Golden Order Greatsword – one of the nine legendary armaments.
- Albinauric Rise: It contains the Graven-Mass Talisman, which boosts all Sorcery damage by eight percent.
After exploring Consecrated Snowfield, players can head to Miquella’s Haligtree to face Malenia. While most players come to Consecrated Snowfield solely to unlock the Haligtree legacy dungeons, there’s much more to discover in these frigid lands.
