Upon entering the vast, beautiful, and seemingly wretched Lands Between of Elden Ring, players will find themselves in the peaceful Limgrave, far from the major regions. Limgrave serves as a starting area for players to get used to combat and controls. However, as players progress through the game, they will discover various mysterious and lore-rich areas like Leyndell, Royal Capital. This place leads to the Forbidden Lands, a fog-shrouded region leading to two of the final regions: the Mountaintops of the Giants and the Consecrated Snowfield.

To progress Elden Ring’s storyline, visiting the Mountaintops of the Giants is a necessary step, as you will need to visit the Giant’s Forge to burn the Erdtree. If you are confused about the Forbidden Lands’ location and how to unlock this area, this guide is for you.

Elden Ring - Forbidden lands

There isn’t much to explore in the Forbidden Lands, as this place acts only as a pathway to the Mountaintops of the Giants and the Consecrated Snowfield. However, there are a few items and two strong bosses for you to fight in the Forbidden Lands.

During the nighttime, you can fight a Night Cavalry boss just a little east of the Forbidden Lands site of grace. Upon defeating this boss, you can get the Ash of War: Phantom Slash and 36,000 runes. The second boss is the Black Blade Kindred, who appears on the stairway to the Grand Lift of Rold. Defeating the Black Blade Kindred will reward you with the Gargoyle’s Black Axe and the Gargoyle’s Black Blade. Besides these two bosses, you will also face vulgar militiamen wielding weapons infused with Destined Death.

While exploring the Forbidden Lands, you can also collect one golden seed and a Somber Smithing Stone [7] inside a giant skull next to the illusory tree with the golden seed. After collecting these items and fighting the bosses, head to the Grand Lift of Rold to use the Rold or Haligtree medallion to go to the Mountaintops of the Giants or the Consecrated Snowfield.
