Key Takeaways
- A Scarlet Witch solo film is not on the MCU slate soon due to a crowded schedule.
- Elizabeth Olsen’s character may feature in Vision Quest, Avengers: Doomsday, and Avengers: Secret Wars.
- Fan interest remains high for Scarlet Witch despite being portrayed as a villain in Doctor Strange 2
A Scarlet Witch solo movie starring Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff has been in demand for several years. Unfortunately, a new rumor suggests this project won’t be included on Marvel Studios’ MCU slate soon.
After WandaVision concluded with Wanda releasing the residents of Westview from her spell and going into self-imposed exile, she returned in Doctor Strange 2 as an antagonist corrupted by the Darkhold and intent on stealing America Chavez’s ability to travel across the multiverse. She wanted these powers to find a universe where her sons Billy and Tommy–whom she created through the same hex that turned Westview into a sitcom world but had to let go when she ended the spell–existed. Realizing her errors, Wanda sacrifices herself to bring down Mount Wundagore (the source of the Darkhold’s power) and destroys every copy of the Darkhold in the multiverse.

Marvel Studios Rumored To Bring Back Divisive Director For A Future Sequel
Marvel Studios is looking to bring back a director whose last MCU project seemed to split opinions.
Despite the character’s demise, fans believe Marvel Studios owes Scarlet Witch a solo movie. While such a project is rumored to be in development, The Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez suggested the wait for Scarlet Witch’s solo film will be long. With D23 Brazil scheduled for November 8-10, one X user expressed hope that Disney will officially announce a Scarlet Witch movie. Unfortunately, Perez dashed any hope of a Scarlet Witch movie being announced soon, writing, “The announcement for that project won’t happen at D23 or anytime soon for the foreseeable future.” When another fan asked why not, Perez explained that Marvel Studios has too much on its plate right now:
No space between here and Secret Wars. Her story will continue and she will have her time, just have to wait a little bit more.
Even if a Scarlet Witch solo movie won’t be released until after Avengers: Secret Wars, Olsen could reprise the role in a different MCU project before then. Reportedly, Olsen’s Scarlet Witch could appear in Vision Quest (a Disney Plus series that serves as the third installment of the trilogy that started with WandaVision and continues with Agatha All Along), which centers on Paul Bettany’s Vision after the events of WandaVision. Scooper MyTimeToShineHello claims Olsen’s Scarlet Witch has an integral role in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which are scheduled to be released in theaters on May 1, 2026, and May 7, 2027, respectively.
So, while fans seemingly must wait until after Avengers: Secret Wars for a Scarlet Witch solo film, rumors suggest Scarlet Witch will still appear across various projects in the Multiverse saga. The character has grown in popularity since she debuted in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and some fans were not pleased to see her turned into a villain for Doctor Strange 2, as she committed several acts (including murder) that some find impossible to atone for. The writers tried to remove some blame by explaining that the Darkhold corrupted Scarlet Witch, but many fans still want a redemption arc for the character. Of course, others think Scarlet Witch should still be a villain when she returns. Regardless, there’s a lot of fan interest in seeing the characters return, and Marvel Studios might be wise to deliver.
