The Epic Games Store is giving away two quirky indie titles that simply ooze personality. Boasting a vibrant cartoon aesthetic, Jitsu Squad is a bombastic modern beat ’em up that harbors back to the genre’s arcade heyday. While not an especially big release, this 2022 title should hit the mark with people who grew up during the ’90s or anyone who appreciates a lighthearted tone soaked in reverence. More importantly, the game’s four characters are a lot of fun, and they are different enough from each other to stand out. Jitsu Squad even includes a Tag Team mode inspired by Marvel vs. Capcom that allows players to jump between characters on the fly.
Mighty Fight Federation is another game that looks to the past for inspiration. Featuring characters like Yooka-Laylee and ToeJam & Earl alongside a host of new faces, this multiplayer fighter is surprisingly technical for this type of release. The combat offers quite a bit of depth, especially if someone plans to try out all the included characters. While the online scene might not be that active (at least, prior to its free stint on Epic), Mighty Fight Federation also has a single-player arcade mode.

GigaBash is a love letter to everything kaiju, and it features an impressive collection of monsters that take inspiration from juggernauts like Godzilla. Gameplay-wise, GigaBash is an arena brawler with a cartoon visual style and simple but fun gameplay. While emphasizing multiplayer, the game has a fair amount of single-player content as well.
