Fallout 76: How to Join Brotherhood of Steel

Fallout 76 has received many updates since its initial release and there’s more content on the way. These patches included finally adding NPCs to the Appalachian wasteland. The Steel Dawn update brought a chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel to the area. You can join them and play through a unique optional questline. Joining the Brotherhood will not lock you out of joining any other factions. This group of the BOS is separate from the squad at Fort Defiance or Abbie’s Bunker. Here is how you can prove yourself to the Brotherhood of Steel and join their ranks in Fallout 76.

Fort Atlas

Fort Atlas is a pre-war observatory situated far to the east of Vault 76. The Brotherhood has stationed themselves in the fort and begun scouring Appalachia for technology. You will need to travel south around the mountain range, then north through the Savage Divide to reach the fort. Follow the train tracks through the valley to find the heavily fortified observatory high on the hill.

When you have reached Level 20, a radio signal from the fort will be picked up by your Pip-Boy. Listen to it and you’ll receive the Forging Trust quest. This will guide you to the Fort to be recruited into the BOS ranks. Speak to Russell Dorsey, and he will see you’re an experienced wastelander. He’ll then tell you to enter the fort and speak to Knight Shin if you want to join.

Forging Trust

Knight Shin will be directly inside the fort entrance arguing with Paladin Rahmani. Listen to their conversation, then offer to help out the Brotherhood to him. The Forging Trust quest is a few simple conversations. Speak with the four civilians in the entrance area who are asking for BOS assistance. Report back to Shin what you think of these people, and he will let you into the main area of the fort.

Mother of Invention

Speak to Scribe Valdez to start the Mother Of Invention quest.

Help Valdez in the Substructure area underneath Fort Atlas. Follow her instructions and analyze the fort’s technology while defending her from enemies. She will then direct you to Paladin Rahmani.

Field Testing

Rahmani will give you the Field Testing quest as it’s time to test your combat prowess. Head to the Lewis & Sons Supply Store southwest of Vault 76. Speak to the family living there to learn there’s a ghoul nest in the area. You can recruit one of the sons to the Brotherhood if you want help in the upcoming fight,

Head north from the supply store to reach Orwell Orchards. Mr. Farmhand robots will attack you thinking that you’re an enemy. Enter the basement of the small house to find an old bunker underneath it. Defeat all the feral ghouls and return to Rahmani. She’ll officially grant you the title of Initiate and induct you into the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel.
