The God of War himself has come to the Fortnite island, with Chapter 5 Season 2 bringing Ares into the mix, alongside other Greek Mythology characters that build upon the Myths & Monsters roster. Ares is a formidable boss fight in Fortnite, and as the God of War, it’s expected that a fight will be legendary, and players can expect just that, as well as some unique rewards for besting him in combat.
Fortnite: How to Get the Mythic Harbinger SMG
Send Hades back to the lobby in Fortnite’s Chapter 5 Season 2 and claim his loot for a better chance to be crowned as King of the Underworld.
Fighting Ares is going to be a challenge, but perhaps not as challenging as Zeus himself. Yet, defeating him will see players usurp him and become the next God of War, it will be worth it, especially when the loot he drops is grand in scale and power. Players will need to beat Ares and be cautious of his minions if they are to survive and claim the Victory Royale.
Ares Altar Location
Players will need to head to the bottom right of the Chapter 5 Season 2 map to Brawler’s Battleground to find Ares’ altar. Upon reaching the center of this large, open area, players will find a small marble statue of Ares in between multiple statues of Spartan soldiers. Simply approach the altar, and interact with the statue to topple it, which will activate the challenge to Ares, calling upon him and his minions, drawing forth combat that has three phases. It’s worth keeping in mind that this is a rather open area, and close to the edge of the map, so players might have to worry about the incoming storm and hostile players jumping in to kill whoever has challenged Ares.
How To Beat Ares
Ares Phase One
Ares is a fairly simple boss fight, but it can still be overwhelming. Ares will not be brought in straight away, and the first Ares phase will have plenty of minions spawn into the arena, charging at the player with assault rifles in hand. Players will need to kill around six of these enemies to enter the second phase, but the best way to take care of them is to simply keep behind cover. Broken pillars and structures will help, and each minion will have 100 health to take care of.
Ares Phase Two
Phase two is more of the same, and Ares still will not appear. Instead, even more minions will come in, requiring players to kill them. Occasionally, a minion will spawn in with shields active, but it won’t ever be too much, so bring plenty of ammo to eliminate them, as players are going to spend more time battling against minions than they are against the Greek God of War.
Ares Phase Three
After enough minions have been defeated, Ares will spawn into the arena to challenge the players themselves. Ares is armed with an assault rifle and a shotgun, so he can switch weapons as he sees fit, bringing in an arsenal of close-range and medium-range combat. The best strategy is to keep to cover, taking effective shots to try and remove Ares’ shields and keep chipping away at his health bar. If players are taking too long, more minions might spawn in, so try to focus on Ares and take out his minions so as to not be overwhelmed by the spawning enemies. However, if Ares is killed, all his minions will also be eliminated. Once defeated, Ares will drop some pretty decent loot.
Aspect Of Combat
Prepare for War! Imbues ranged weapons with increased damage. Reveals your location on the map.
The Aspect of Combat medallion is one of the best, if not, the best. The Aspect of Combat provides increased damage to ranged weapons, meaning snipers and DMRs will boast even greater power. To those who shoot enemies at a distance, this medallion is a must-have. The added damage may mean the difference between life and death for unsuspecting foes, or even to those who know, but are no match for the sniping capabilities of the player.
Ares’ Warforged Assault Rifle
The ultimate Warforged Assault Rifle, forged by the hands of Hephaestus himself.
Prepare to increase the power of one’s arsenal, as Ares’ Warforged Assault Rifle acts as one of the best weapons in the Fortnite meta. It’s a great choice to wield, and the large magazine, decent fire rate, and adoring bout of damage make for a consistent assault rifle that can easily beat opponents with similar weapons and great Mythics. Used in medium-range fights, players with great accuracy can easily come out on top.
