Genshin Impact Releases Xianyun Character Demo for Version 4.4

Genshin Impact has released the character demo video for Xianyun, showcasing her strengths in the Anemo Support role, as well as the inventive side of her persona. While Xianyun has been one of the most anticipated Liyue characters in Genshin Impact, her maternal relationship with Ganyu and Shenhe also played a key factor in increasing her popularity over the years. Fans have often ascribed her the personality of a doting mother, and official content such as Ganyu’s Story Quest or the previous Lantern Rites have only further legitimized this side of Xianyun.

However, removed from the context of Ganyu and Shenhe, Cloud Retainer is an engineer and inventor at heart – fiercely competitive and proud of her craft. These two aspects of her personality have served as the foundation of Xianyun’s role as an Anemo Support, where not only does she use her adeptal gadgets to enable and enhance Plunging Attacks for all Genshin Impact characters, but she also provides healing at the same time through her Elemental Burst.

On paper, Xianyun’s ability kit is difficult to convey through a character demo, but it would seem that HoYoverse managed to pull it off. Despite the Lantern Rite controversy in Genshin Impact, player reception to Xianyun has been positive thus far, and she is slated to make her appearance on the Event Banner in the first half of Version 4.4 on January 31, 2024. The character demo was shared across social media, and it features Xianyun (with a cameo of her daughters) helping out a playwright from Liyue.

The video highlights Xianyun’s Elemental Burst, which summons a Starwicker mechanism that heals nearby party members, and enables them to perform up to eight Plunging Attacks with increased jump height, dealing Anemo damage to surrounding targets hit by the Plunging Attack. While Xianyun’s ability kit in Genshin Impact initially produced a lukewarm impression among fans, the Genshin Impact community has since warmed up to it.

Xianyun and Nahida in Phase 1 of Genshin Impact Version 4.4

Genshin Impact players will be able to spend their pulls on Xianyun until February 20, 2024. In addition to having Nahida on the opposite banner, Xianyun will be accompanied by three powerful 4-Star characters in Genshin Impact: Noelle, Faruzan, and Gaming. However, her signature weapon is considered a niche option, which will certainly come as a disappointment to fans who are hoping to get A Thousand Floating Dreams for Nahida on the Weapon Banner. Those who choose to save their Primogems for the second half of the patch will be able to pull for Yae Miko and Xiao instead, albeit with a less desirable set of 4-Star characters.
