Minecraft has released a new update for Java and Bedrock editions, which allows players to store items in decorated pots and has given bats a new design. Minecraft often receives updates to add new features and tweaks. With them, Mojang seeks to keep Minecraft fresh and the game’s community engaged.

This year has been particularly eventful for the Minecraft community, which has seen significant changes come to the game. After a year’s wait, Minecraft‘s Trails and Tales update arrived in June, bringing players archeology features, new camel and sniffer mobs, and more. Other updates that got the spotlight this year adjusted Minecraft‘s diamond distribution, rebalanced villager exchanges, and introduced a command to stop time. But the Minecraft news keeps coming, and Mojang’s sandbox has introduced two changes in its latest update.


Minecraft Player Perfectly Recreates Counter-Strike 2’s Impressive Smoke Grenades

A Minecraft player uses the game’s resources to reproduce the smoke grenades from Counter-Strike 2, and the idea impresses their fellow players.

Minecraft has released update 1.20.3 for Java Edition and 1.20.50 for Bedrock Edition, which allows players to store items in decorated pots. With the change, players can now stockpile items in decorated pots using a hopper, or by right-clicking on the pot while holding the item they want to store. There is no limit to what can go in the decorated pots, which can be turned into piggy banks for potatoes, potions, or even weapons. To retrieve the items, Minecraft gives two options: use the hopper again or smash the pot in The Legend of Zelda style. Introduced in the Trails and Tales update, the decorated pots had only an aesthetic function. With this change, Minecraft players have another storage option besides chests, barrels, frames, ender chests, and shulker boxes.

Another new feature included in Minecraft 1.20.3 and 10.20.50 is the bat’s redesign. As of this update, bats have an updated appearance, animations, and textures. Bats have been part of Minecraft since the Pretty Scary Update, an update that added several items and mobs that are still present in the game. The bat’s change is only visual, as it remains one of Minecraft‘s passive mobs. The update also includes the new copper block family, the new crafter block, interface tweaks, commands, and various improvements.

While the Minecraft community’s year continues to be busy, the game’s future is just as promising. During Minecraft Live 2023, players chose the armadillo as the new mob to be added in the next major update. At the moment, known only as “Minecraft 1.21,” the update will also introduce other content such as the new hostile mob breeze, and the Trial Chamber structure. Combining the new content with the creativity of the community, it won’t be surprising to see Minecraft players putting these future features to fun use.

  • When placed, its light is off by default
    • While the Copper Bulb is unpowered, it will toggle its light on or off when it receives a Redstone pulse
    • Copper Bulb light will stay on even when the Redstone source is removed until it receives another Redstone pulse to toggle it off
  • A Redstone crystal will glow in the center of Copper Bulbs while it is powered by a Redstone signal
  • Comparators will read a signal strength of 15 if the Copper Bulb’s light is on
  • Does not conduct Redstone power
  • Can craft 4 Copper Bulbs with:
    • 3 Copper Blocks of a shared oxidation level
    • 1 Blaze Rod
    • 1 Redstone Dust

  • All Tuff variants can be crafted in the Stonecutter and Crafting Table


  • Fixed an issue where experimental Librarians never sold the highest level of their common enchantments (MCPE-174861)



  • A Sticky Piston pulling a retracting Sticky Piston that is pulling a player and another block no longer crashes the game (MCPE-175790)
  • Fixed a bug where the screen would freeze when uploading a world template to a Realm


  • The maximum render distance in Realms can be adjusted via backend updates. Expect an increase to the maximum render distance on Realms in the next week
  • Players can now download worlds larger than 1GB from Realms on Xbox
  • Improved handling of unexpected errors during world export and better error messaging is now provided (MCPE-41898)
  • You can now launch Minecraft directly into a Realm using a link, even when the game isn’t running

Previously a mob’s horizontal width was used to determine their attack reach and their height had no effect. The area where a mob can attack is now their bounding box extended in horizontal directions
    • The mobs affected by this change are Axolotl, Bee, Blaze, Cave Spider, Dolphin, Drowned, Enderman, Endermite, Fox, Hoglin, Husk, Iron Golem, Panda, Piglin, Piglin Brute, Pillager, Silverfish, Skeleton, Spider, Stray, Vindicator, Warden, Wither Skeleton, Wolf, Zoglin, Zombie, Zombie Pigman, and Zombie Villager
    • The new reach calculation is the attacking mob’s bounding box extended by 0.8 blocks horizontally. If this extended box overlaps the target’s bounding box, then the attack can reach
    • This change does not affect the reach of players


  • Horizontal End Rod hitboxes are now rotated correctly (MCPE-171597)
  • Chorus Flowers can now be destroyed by any projectile, which will no longer disappear after impact (MCPE-176184)
