Highlights

  • Mortal Kombat is home to giants like Sheeva and Goro, who use their massive size to crush opponents with ease.
  • Kotal Kahn, Raiden, and Geras also stand tall in the series, using their intimidating stature to dominate in combat.
  • Motaro, an even bigger centaur, towers over all with a unique style that combines sheer size with deadly projectiles.

The dark and gory universe of Mortal Kombat is packed full of unique characters who hail from a range of different species, cultures, and worlds. Unlike most fighting game universes where most of the characters have at least some sort of respect for one another when engaging in a battle, Mortal Kombat‘s combatants often do everything they can to tear their enemies apart in the most gruesome way possible. As a result, they’ll use absolutely everything to their advantage, and that not only includes weapons and dark magic but also their size.

Anyone who’s played the Mortal Kombat games knows that this series has included a few absolute giants included in some of its character rosters, all of whom will gladly use their larger frame to help crush their opponent when engaging in a fierce battle. For anyone wondering who really is the biggest of the bunch, these individuals are the tallest characters ever seen in the Mortal Kombat series.

8 Sheeva

Height: 6′ 8″

Sheeva - Mortal Kombat Underrated Characters

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
Released
October 6, 1995

Developer(s)
Midway Games

Genre(s)
Fighting

  • First Appearance:Mortal Kombat 3

Though Sheeva is a little smaller than some of the other members of the Shokan, this isn’t to suggest she still can’t crush anyone who stands in her way with nothing but her bare hands, because she most certainly can. When she’s not tearing her opponents apart limb by limb, Sheeva can often be seen using her iconic ground-pound where she flies off the screen and lands directly on top of her enemies to give them a rude awakening.

Considering Sheeva was once the personal bodyguard of Sindel, it makes sense she would be this big to prevent anyone from getting close to her queen, and it also helps to make her seem incredibly intimidating from her appearance alone. Sheeva usually only appears in the games as a quick cameo or as a DLC character if she’s lucky, but she will gladly use her size to her advantage in combat whenever she’s allowed to fight.

7 Kotal Kahn

Height: 6′ 9″

Kotal Kahn From Mortal Kombat 11

Mortal Kombat X
Released
April 7, 2015

Genre(s)
Fighting

  • First Appearance:Mortal Kombat X

Kotal Kahn may have eventually assumed the position of Khan, but unlike his infamous predecessor who was obsessed with conquering as many worlds as possible, Kotal had a different way of looking at things. Instead, Kotal Kahn decided to dedicate his efforts to stabilizing the realm and keeping his people safe, but he’s also proven on numerous occasions that he’s not afraid to throw hands when the situation calls for it.

The gory and gruesome Mortal Kombat universe is home to some of the darkest characters found in any fighting game.

For someone to be a Khan, they need to look the part, and Kotal without a doubt fits the description, standing nearly 7 feet tall and having plenty of accessories and ornaments around his body which emphasize his higher status within society. Kotal Kahn might be a lot more passive than Shao Khan ever was, but it’s still hard not to be intimidated by his size and physique.

6 Raiden

Height: 7′

Released
October 6, 1992

Developer(s)

Genre(s)

  • First Appearance:Mortal Kombat (1992)

Though Raiden may look like any ordinary human on the surface, he was actually the eternal God of Thunder in the original timeline, who also happens to be one of the oldest characters in the entire series. To show his superiority over the other humans, Raiden is always depicted as being quite a bit taller than his mortal allies, which makes sense considering how immensely powerful he is. In combat, Raiden will often use his electric powers to damage and stun his enemies, but he’s not above using his body to deal a few devastating blows now and again too.

The biggest example of this is the Electric Fly attack, where Raiden uses his powers to propel him head-first towards the opponent, launching his body onto them before they crash into the nearest wall. It can come as quite a surprise for some fans to learn that Raiden is this massive, but then again, nothing less would be expected from a literal god such as himself.

5 Geras

Height: 7′ 1″

Mortal Kombat 11
Released
April 23, 2019

Genre(s)
Fighting

  • First Appearance:Mortal Kombat 11

Geras was first introduced as a playable character in Mortal Kombat 11, and out of all the newcomers, he was the one people tended to gravitate toward. Part of the reason for this was his incredibly unique time-bending powers, which granted him quite an unorthodox fighting style, but it was also due to his size. Standing just over 7 feet tall, Geras is one of the tallest “humans” in the entire series, which is something he makes use of in battle where he’s more than capable of smashing his opponents to pieces with his hard-hitting attacks.

Kronika created Geras to serve as her guardian, and to ensure no one could stand in her way, she designed him to be as strong and intimidating as possible. It’s therefore understandable why she decided to make him so massive in size, as it’s true that nobody would want to get on his bad side after taking one look at him.

4 Shao Kahn

Height: 7′ 4″

The main villain of the Mortal Kombat series since the early days, Shao Kahn is one of the most recognizable villains in all of video games. The emperor has committed some horrific atrocities throughout his life and has willingly taken the lives of hundreds of thousands just to try and secure a position of power within the realms. Rather than letting his loyal armies do all the work for him though, Kahn is also a warrior himself who loves nothing more than jumping into a battle and swinging his giant axe around to see how much blood he can spill.

Only dedicated players know these details about one of Mortal Kombat’s most infamous antagonists, the Emperor of Outworld himself.

When seeing how much bigger Shao Kahn is compared to the normal human, it starts to become clear why he’s been so successful in battle all his life, since there’s virtually no one who can compare to him from a physical standpoint. When he’s not mocking his opponent with a sadistic laugh, Shao Kahn can crush anyone who stands in his way thanks to his gigantic frame and malicious fighting style.

3 Torr

Height: 7′ 5″

A smaller girl riding on a massive man's back

  • First Appearance:Mortal Kombat X

Fans might remember Torr as being one half of the Ferra Torr duo seen in Mortal Kombat X. Without Ferra guiding him, Torr would just be a mindless brute without any real purpose in life, and as a result, he would probably end up causing a lot of chaos if he were let loose considering how much of a behemoth this guy is. Torr’s size allows him to throw around regular humans like ragdolls, while also making him extremely durable against enemy attacks.

There’s not a lot known about Torr’s species, but there’s the potential that they may be a group of giants who could potentially take over the realms if they banded together. If Torr is anything to go by, it seems as though these brutes care about one thing only, and that’s dismantling anyone whom their riders see as a threat.

2 Goro

Height: 8′ 2″

Mortal Kombat Goro Playable

  • First Appearance: Mortal Kombat (1992)

Goro is capable of striking fear into the eyes of anyone who dares to stand up to him, and that’s before he’s even thrown a punch. Similar to Sheeva, Goro is a half-human half-dragon species known as Shoken and was even a former champion of the Mortal Kombat tournament. He is one of Shao Khan’s most loyal warriors who also stands quite a bit taller than his master, though he’s always shown to be dedicated to the Khan’s cause and will follow every last one of his orders without fail.

Goro isn’t shy about using his size and strength in battle, which is a major reason why he managed to win nine consecutive tournaments in a row and even bested Kung Lao during their first encounter. In fact, Goro was actually considered to be unbalanced in the early games where all of his moves dealt far more damage than the other fighters, so while he’s retained his size in the more modern titles, he’s at least a bit more fair to play against.

1 Motaro

Height: 8′ 5″

  • First Appearance: Mortal Kombat 3

Goro, Sheeva, Shao Khan, all of these characters might already be behemoths in their own right, but none of them could ever dream of coming close to the Centaurian known as Motaro. Just as the name implies, Motaro’s species has the unique appearance of combining a stallion’s body with a human torso. This can look pretty weird, even by Mortal Kombat‘s standards, but it also allows Motaro to tower over his prey, including the Shokans, whom he possesses an intense hatred for.

Motaro’s size has made him a very recognizable character from the series, but even though he’s more than capable of trampling the enemy to death, a huge part of his fighting style revolves around his projectiles. Still, with that being said, he will take it upon himself to flatten anyone he needs to if it helps to prove his superiority to the great Shao Khan.
