The Fitbit Edge will feature a 1.34-inch always-on OLED touchscreen and will run Fitbit OS with access to Google Play. It will connect to Android and iOS devices over Bluetooth and in addition to GPS it will include a variety of sensors including an accelerometer, a barometer, an altimeter, and a gyroscope plus multiple optical sensors for measuring heart rate and blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) and electrical sensors for capturing ECGs.
The Edge’s fitness monitoring capabilities will include tracking steps, distance, calories, skin temperature, sleep, cardiac load, and menstrual cycles. It will also track physical activities like running, swimming, golf, and over 40 different exercises with real-time coaching and personalized fitness programs provided by Google Gemini. The fitness tracker will also watch for the telltale signs of serious medical conditions like atrial fibrillation and irregular heart rhythms with alerts when they’re detected.
A user-replaceable lithium-ion battery is rated for up to seven days of battery life but that will be reduced to up to two days with its screen always on. The Fitbit Edge will also feature an IP68 water resistance rating and is expected to launch in four color options like the Pixel Watch 5 including obsidian and matte black, olive and satin pyrite, canyon and champagne gold, and fog and polished silver.
