Dragon’s Dogma 2 is already a big hit on Steam, having just cracked the Top Sellers list on Valve’s storefront. Its early success follows Capcom’s announcement that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will launch on March 22, 2024, in accordance with previous leaks.
The release date confirmation stemmed from the latest Dragon’s Dogma 2 showcase offering new plot and gameplay details about the upcoming open-world RPG. The November 28 event was followed by the start of the game’s pre-order period, which kicked off a day later.
5 Ways Dragon’s Dogma 2 Can Outdo Elden Ring
Out of all of the upcoming RPG titles, Capcom’s sequel to their underrated RPG franchise has the potential to outperform the beloved Elden Ring.
The strength of its pre-orders alone has already propelled the Steam version of Dragon’s Dogma 2 into the platform’s Top Sellers list, where it currently ranks ninth. That ranking places it immediately above Apex Legends, and below Ashborne Games and THQ Nordic’s newly released RTS Last Train Home. For clarity, the Steam Top Sellers chart encompasses both paid and free-to-play titles on Valve’s platform, whereas its rankings are determined by the combined totals of all sources of revenue for a given group of games over a brief period.

The strong start of the open-world RPG’s pre-orders is all the more impressive in light of the fact that Dragon’s Dogma 2 marked the beginning of Capcom raising its PC game prices. The Standard Edition of the game is hence priced at $69.99, while its Deluxe Edition will set its owners back an extra $10. While the latter does come with a fairly wide variety of early adopter bonuses, $70 games are still not the norm in the PC space, at least compared to the current-generation consoles.
What is Dragon’s Dogma 2?
The sequel to Capcom’s hit ARPG for the PS3 and Xbox 360 was originally announced in June 2022, not long after the ten-year release anniversary of Dragon’s Dogma. The original game received widespread praise for its incredibly rich fantasy lore, vast open world, captivating combat, and immense character build variety, among other things. An elaborate New Game Plus mode also greatly contributed to its replayability, helping cement its status as a cult classic.
Based on the information and gameplay footage that Capcom has revealed to date, the upcoming RPG will retain much of its predecessor’s formula. Additionally, Dragon’s Dogma 2 will take some inspiration from GTA 5 in how it attempts to create an immersive open world with lifelike NPCs, as previously revealed by the game’s director, Hideaki Itsuno. Apart from PC, Dragon’s Dogma 2 will also release for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
