In the game, fishing isn’t just a hobby or a way to make money, it’s a path to discovering a person’s “oneness” and creating lasting relationships with villagers and other players. With the perfect rods, bait, and timing, players can unlock the secrets of Palia and the intriguing fish that inhabit the world.


9 Whispering Banks

Map: Kilima

The Whispering Banks are located along the eastern border of Kilima. Players can fish in this area of the map, following the Kilima River, for a variety of different common, uncommon, and rare fish.

This location is home to the epic fish known as the Flametongue Ray. It often appears during the morning and daytime and you’ll be able to capture it by using glow-worms as bait. Catching this fish is a requirement for the Flamerod Bundle in the Vault of the Flames. They also sell for quite a bit of money if players are looking for a way to make more gold. Basic Flametongue Rays sell for 375 gold and star-quality ones sell for 562 gold.


8 Hodari & Najuma’s House

Hodari and his daughter, Najuma, live in Bahari Bay a short walk north of the entrance. There is a pond outside their home that is great for fishing in. Here, players will find several different types of koi and carp. Many flock to this pond searching for fish, and fishing in groups with others will help players gain fishing XP at a faster rate.


In this pond, players who fish with glow-worms have the chance of encountering the epic Giant Goldfish. Catching this fish and turning it in towards the Freshwater Bundle in the Vault of Waves will help unlock special rewards like bait, recipes, and gold.

7 Bahari Bay Coast

On the easternmost coast of Bahari Bay, players will find a large body of water outstretching further than the eye can see. Those who fish along this coast will find fish such as bass, tuna, and rays. Fishing with glow-worms during the daytime can result in finding the epic Long Nosed Unicorn Fish, which is required to complete the Magic Bundle.

Palia: How to Increase Focus

Increasing Focus in Palia makes learning skills like foraging, logging, mining, and more easier.

Using worms as bait, some may find the recipe for fish stew off the Bahari Bay Coast. Fish stew is a dish often requested by NPC villagers, but consuming it gives players a boost of 100 focus points and a minor safe zone speed boost. It’s also a key location for completing the Fishing for Answers quest.

6 Flooded Fortress

Although it can be difficult to find access to, the Flooded Fortress is a great spot for fishing, treasure hunting, and catching bugs. There are two entrances to this area of Bahari Bay. The first is through the Pavel Mines, and the second involves traversing the path south from The Outskirts. If players are okay with spending gold, they could also fast-travel to The Outskirts to save time.

Along with fish such as trout, rays, and minnows, dedicated players with a hefty supply of glow-worms may come across the Swordfin Eel. This fish isn’t required for any bundles or quests but counts toward fishing accomplishments. They sell for 375 gold (or 562 gold for star-quality Swordfin Eels).

5 Fisherman’s Lagoon

Back in Kilima, players should visit the Fisherman’s Lagoon. It’s where Einar hangs out for the majority of the day. It is located at the southeast corner of the Kilima map. Here, players will find fish such as the Enchanted Pupfish, the Striped Sturgeon, and the Giant Kilima Stingray, which are part of separate bundles.

After completing all bundles for the Vault of Waves quest, players will unlock the epic Ancient Fish that can be caught in the Fisherman’s Lagoon or along the coast of Kilima Lake.

4 Statue Garden

The Statue Garden is an underrated spot to catch fish in Bahari Bay. At this location on the map, two rivers converge and flow into the Coral Shores and the Bahari Bay coast. Get there by traveling to the northeast corner of the map. Bahari Bay rivers, players will find fish like Silvery Minnows, Oily Anchovies, and Cutthroat Trout, which are all gifts often requested by villagers.

For example, gifting Cutthroat Trout to villagers like Kenyatta and Elouisa is a good way to raise friendship levels quickly. At the Statue Garden, players will also find the rare Stormray, which is needed to complete the Cloudcurrent Bundle in the Vault of the Gale Quest. Make sure to use lots of glow-worms as bait and only fish during the morning and evening hours of the game.


3 Mirror Pond Ruins

The Mirror Pond Ruins are a great place for a quiet, calming fishing experience. It is located at the northwest corner of Kilima, where Hekla and Jina hang out when they’re not in Caleri’s library. Here, players will come across three different types of koi: the Calico Koi, the Scarlet Koi, and the Cantankerous Koi. These types of fish are perfect for keeping as pets to decorate a home.


Two types of catfish are native to the Mirror Pond Ruins, including the Kilima Catfish and the Stalking Catfish, either of which can be used to create the Fried Catfish Dinner. The recipe for this dish can be obtained by reaching level three friendship with Hassian and reading a book from his grove. This makes a perfect gift for villagers like Nai’o and Kenli, but it is also a great food for increasing focus at a bonus of 225 points (or 337 if it is star quality).

2 Ormuu’s Horn Inn

Ashura owns an inn known by locals as the Ormuu’s Horn Inn. It is located in the heart of Kilima Village, neighboring Sifuu’s blacksmith station. Behind the inn, players can cast their lines off of docks to catch several different types of fish. Gold and Silver Salmon, Rainbow Trout, and Indigo Lamprey are all great gifts that can be obtained in this part of the river.

The Ormuu’s Horn Inn fishing spot is also where players can catch a channel catfish. This type of fish is considered uncommon, but fairly simple to catch, considering it doesn’t require any bait. Gifting a channel catfish to Delaila or Elouisa can help bolster relationships in Palia.

1 Pavel Mines

The Pavel Mines are the best place to catch exotic fish in Palia. If players venture into the caves of the Pavel Mines in Bahari Bay, they will come across a pond containing fish that are native to this area alone. This location is the only place players can catch an Eyeless Minnow or a Blobfish, as well as the rare Mutated Angler fish.

If players dedicate their time to fishing with glow-worms in the caves of the Pavel Mines, they may emerge with the infamous Void Ray, an epic alien fish with glowing bright blue eyes. Both the Mutated Angler and the Void Ray are needed to complete the Spooky Bundle in the Vault of Flames Quest.
