How Does Bump Attack Work?
First Attack and Bump Attack are very useful badges when you’re at a high level, but need to battle weaker enemies. Both of these badges enable Mario to instantly defeat low-level enemies without having to battle them. While you can buy First Attack after Chapter 2 in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, you’ll need to put in some work to get Bump Attack. In fact, you’ll want to start searching for Bump Attack when you’re at a much higher level. Getting this badge involves working your way down the Pit of 100 Trials.

Pit of 100 Trials
Bump Attack is located on the 80th Floor in Pit of 100 Trials. It’s unlikely this will be your first time visiting, but if it is, you should be aware that Pit of 100 Trials is a nonstop series of battles that span for 100 floors. For every 10th floor, you’ll reach a rest area that allows you to return to the entrance. There’s also a treasure chest on each 10th floor that holds a useful item, such as the Bump Attack badge.
The Pit of 100 Trials’ enemies will scale with every 10 levels. In the first 10 floors, you’ll battle monsters that you’ve encountered in Petalburg. Floors 21-29 will have monsters from the Glitz Pitt, and so forth. Around Floors 70-79, you’ll face enemies that you fight in the Palace of Shadow, such as the Phantom Ember.
If you’re not sure how to gauge your level, for the Bump Attack badge, see how you fair against the enemies at
the Palace of Shadow
. If you’re struggling, then you’ll know to do some leveling up.
Mover Puni
Sometimes, when you spawn on a new floor, there will be a Puni wearing a beanie and sunglasses. This is called a Mover, and if you have the money, he’ll transport you down two levels (10 Coins) or five levels (30 Coins). However, be warned that the Mover will skip treasure Floors/the 10th floor. For example: If you see a Mover on Floor 77 and have him move you down five floors, you’re going to move pass the 80th floor and miss the Bump Attack badge. Always check which Floor you’re on (check the sign at the back of the room) before asking him to move.

How Much BP is Required?
Bump Attack will instantly defeat any low-level enemy that comes into contact with Mario while in the overworld. It requires 5BP to equip. Unfortunately, enemies defeated via Bump Attack will not drop Star Points. However, they can drop Coins or items. Unlike First Attack, Mario does not need to strike the enemy first (Jump or Hammer) for Bump Attack to work. It’s also important to remember that Bump Attack only defeats enemies that will give you low Star Points (i.e: one point). Bump Attack, like First Attack, does not work in the Pit of 100 Trials. Fortunately, unequipping it in Pit of 100 Trials frees up 5BP for other Badges.
