Persona 3 Reload: How to Start the Devil Social Link (Tanaka)

President Tanaka of Tanaka’s Amazing Commodities is one of the many Social Links in Persona 3 Reload. As Persona 3 Reload‘s Devil Social Link, Tanaka is very materialistic and quite different from his Amazing Commodities persona. The Devil Social Link is one of the slower Social Links to start up. You’ll also need high Charm and a lot of money before Tanaka even acknowledges the protagonist. Fortunately, he’s an evening-only Social Link and easy to Rank Up.

How to Unlock the Devil Social Link

How to Get Hermit Social Link, Charm, and Money

Tanaka can be found at Paulownia Mall in the evenings on Mondays, Tuesdays, and weekends. There are three prerequisites for Tanaka’s Social Link:

• Hermit Social Link Rank 4
• Level 4 Charm
• 40000 yen

Prerequisite #1

You can start the Hermit Social Link (Maya) as soon as you receive the MMO (Innocent Sin) from Junpei on 4/28. You’ll only be able to speak with Maya on Sundays and Holidays using the computer in Your Room. Once you start Rank 3, Maya will mention a rude man at Paulownia Mall.

Prerequisite #2

You can increase your Charm by doing any of the following:

• Purchase Charm-enhancing software at the Net Cafe in Iwatodai Strip Mall on the shared computer in Iwatodai Dorm’s Lounge.
• Go to the movie theaters.
• Watch a DVD in the Dorm Lounge (unlocks 6/16).
• Work part-time at Chagall Cafe.
• Answer questions correctly in class and score high on exams.

Prerequisite #3

You will need a total of 40000 yen to fully unlock the Social Link:

1. On the first day you speak with Tanaka, agree to pay him 20000 upfront. Tanaka then says to return to him at a later point (i.e, any day the Devil Social Link is available) to see how things went.
2. The second time you speak to Tanaka, he’ll say there was an error and that he’ll need to collect 10000 more from you.
3. The third time you speak to Tanaka, he’ll ask for another 10000 yen. You may have already caught on that you’re being scammed out of your money, but pay it up anyway so that you can finally get Rank 1 of the Devil Social Link.

As frustrating as it is to willingly let the protagonist get scammed, you do
not
want to refuse to give Tanaka the 40k yen. Doing so will just delay the start date for the Social Link. That’s why it’s best to speak to him only if you have the amounts on hand (i.e, 20k for day one, 10k for day two, 10k for the final day).

The best way to farm money is to sell your Treasures or unused Armor/Weapons to Kurosawa at the Police Station after every Tartarus run. In Tartarus itself, you’ll want to try and finish off as many Shadows as you can with All-Out Attacks to trigger Shuffle Time. During the Shuffle TIme itself, select the Pentacles Tarot Card (if it appears). Pentacles always give you money at the end of battle.

Other ways of getting money are working part-time jobs. You’ll also get Social Stat points for the part-time work. Working a shift in the afternoon at the Screen Shot Movie Theater in Port Island Station will net you 5000 yen. If you’re lucky, jobs will give you bonus pay depending on how busy the shift ends up being for the day.

What to Do with Tanaka’s Signature Key Item

Request #41

You will receive a key item from Tanaka upon starting his Social Link. It’s Tanaka’s business card, and it doesn’t have any value in battle nor can it be sold. However, you’ll find a use for it through Elizabeth’s Requests (which start unlocking on 5/10). You need to give Elizabeth Tanaka’s Signature to complete Request #41: Bring me the mysterious person’s autograph.

As a reward for bringing Elizabeth the Tanaka’s Signature key item, you will receive a Nihil Blade. This is a Fusion item that can be used at Mayoida Antiques, which automatically unlocks on 7/18. The Nihil Blade serves as a base for a new weapon, which you can then use Gemstones to fuse it into one of the following weapons:

• Outenta Mitsuyo
• Source Yumi
• Claymore
• Root Cestus
• Flamberge
