Pokemon Fan Creates Impressive Stained Glass Artwork of Mew

An artistically talented Pokemon player recently created a stunning glass portrait of the legendary Mew. Of all the 151 creatures introduced in the original Pokemon games, Mew is the most elusive and mysterious – both in-universe and out. Players couldn’t even encounter Mew in Pokemon Red and Blue without using cheats or attending special Pokemon events, and it is deeply tied to the lore of the series due to being the genetic source for the powerful clone Mewtwo. Mew is also special for being able to use almost any attack in the Generation 1 games.

This has all resulted in Mew being extremely popular among Pokemon fans, who have paid homage to the mystical New Species Pokemon through creative artwork and other projects. Such works range from impressive drawings of Mew as a futuristic mecha or a more realistic-looking cat to custom Nintendo DS handhelds modeled after the “Ancient Mew” card used to promote Pokemon the Movie 2000. Others have created equally stunning Mew dolls with life-like fur or cute plush toys out of wool.

EmilyWallArtwork is a Reddit user and stained glass artist from South Wales who recently posted an image of their impressive rendering of Mew to r/gaming. Said artwork shows Mew hovering in an inquisitive pose with a glistening holographic sheen befitting its status as an incredibly rare and powerful Legendary Pokemon. In a later comment, EmilyWallArtwork explained how they drew Mew’s eyes with glass paint before baking them into the glass with an oven. Likewise, Mew’s arms are tinned wire that the artist soldered into place.

This isn’t EmilyWallArtwork’s first gaming-related stained glass project, as they also created a cute portrait of Generation 2’s elephant-like Ground-type Phanpy in addition to a rendition of the floral Korok from the Legend of Zelda series. They have also shown off custom posters inspired by 2018’s blockbuster hit Red Dead Redemption 2 and even a pencil drawing of Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher on various social media platforms.

Other Reddit users in the comments section have praised EmilyWallArtwork for their stunning stained glass artwork of Mew, with some even asking for a similar portrait of Mew’s clone and rival Mewtwo. Sure enough, this glass version of Mew captures its cute appearance and playful, curious attitude from the games and Pokemon movies quite well, and serves as yet another great example of how the long-running Pokemon franchise has captured and inspired the imaginations of fans for almost three decades.
