A Pokemon fan has reimagined the rather disgusting appearance of Muk, creating a Rock and Poison dual-type for the pocket monster. While the original design of Muk looked monstrous, this fan’s new spin on the creature’s look could make it one of the most horrifying Pokemon in the series.

First released in Gen 1, Muk has been a part of the Pokemon franchise for a long time. As the name suggests, this Poison-type Pokemon is made up of purple-colored sludge, which is toxic to those around it. Thanks to its monstrous form, the creature has already been the subject of horrifying fan art, such as one concept imagining Muk as a giant tidal wave. However, the latest fan-made variant puts a radioactive twist on its design.

Taking to Reddit, a Pokemon fan known as JJonnie shared concept art of what a Rock and Poison dual-type Muk could look like. The artist’s variant of the Pokemon was named Nuc, The Sorrowful Power, and the post included illustrations of the standard and shiny designs. While the Pokemon possessed a similar blob-like shape to Muk, this new variant had a rocky, almost metallic, appearance, evidencing the new typing. The primary color of Nuc was black, with a greenish gas-like substance enveloping the creature. In contrast, the shiny version featured a rainbow of colors with a light blue vapor surrounding the design.

In addition to the artwork, the Pokemon fan provided a description and brief backstory of the Muk variant. Based on the text, Nuc, possibly short for nuclear, is composed of plutonium, a radioactive substance, and is kept at a power plant to “harvest energy.” JJonnie also noted that scientists are the ones attending to the Pokemon at this location, suggesting that it was potentially engineered. In addition, Nuc has an ability called Half Life and causes itself and its opponent to lose 1/8th of their health every turn.

This new fan-made variant for Muk comes as fans are gearing up for the release of the second part of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet on December 14. While Muk was already in the games, the release of Part 1, The Teal Mask, provided players with new creatures to use as the subjects of fan art. It will be interesting to see if creative gamers like JJonnie design even more Pokemon variants in the days leading up to Part 2, The Indigo Disk. If they are anything like this Rock/Poison-type for Muk, they are likely to impress.
