A Pokemon fan has come up with a unique design for a potential convergent form of the classic Water/Ice-type Pokemon Lapras. This fanart provides a glimpse into what could’ve been, had Game Freak created a redesign of their own for the gentlehearted seafarer in the latest mainline Pokemon game.

For those out of the loop, convergent forms are new types of Pokemon that were introduced in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the most recent games in the series. Unlike the regional forms that were first added in Pokemon Sun and Moon, convergent forms are regarded as completely different Pokemon, with their own individual entries in the Pokedex to boot. Unfortunately, though, only six existing Pokemon received convergent forms in Scarlet and Violet, leaving many to wonder what the ecologically similar renditions of other popular Pokemon would look like. Since Game Freak may never make these Pokemon itself, some fans are up to the task of bringing these hypothetical convergent forms to life themselves through fanart.

6 Pokemon In Need Of A Convergent Evolution Line

The following Pokemon are long overdue for change and revamping. A convergent evolution line could be the solution in the next game.

A Reddit user that goes by the name Just-Drawing-Mons has created some artwork of a possible convergent form of Lapras, named Snailpras, and has posted it on the r/Pokemon subreddit. Unlike its original Water/Ice counterpart, this proposed ecological relative of Lapras has a Bug/Ground typing instead. This puts it more in line with mons like Nincada and Sandy Cloak Wormadam, who both share this rare Pokemon type combo as well. In addition, this iteration of Lapras has a shell similar to that of a snail, which contrasts with the somewhat spiky exterior of the original Pokemon’s design.

Redditors have reacted positively to the artwork of this potential alternate form for Lapras, with commenters Mediocre-Lawfulness6 and Quesy-Environment34 both calling the design “cool.” Others, meanwhile, have suggested alternative names to call the fan-made Pokemon by. Reddit user clownieo, for instance, recommended using the name “Gastropus” (pronounced gah-straw-pus), while fellow commenter OkJob7855 provided the name “Landpras” instead. Regardless of whatever the best name for this hypothetical Pokemon could be, it seems everyone in the comment section is in agreement that this is nonetheless a good design for a Lapras convergent form.

Fans Are Creating New Convergent Forms For Pokemon

This isn’t the first time that Just-Drawing-Mons has created cool-looking redesigns of existing Pokemon. Recently, they designed angelic-looking convergent form redesigns for Magnemite and Magneton as well. Other artists like Reddit users ordheistart and SayuriKoopa, meanwhile, have taken to the site to post artwork of convergent redesigns of their own. They created ecologically similar renditions of a wide variety of Pokemon, ranging from Lilligant, Musharna, and Polteageist, all the way to Forretress, Eiscue, and Poliwrath. The effort put into these redesigns shows just how passionate and dedicated the Pokemon fanbase truly is to this day.
