An artistically talented Pokemon fan with an affection for Eevee recently painted a series of portraits of the little critter deciding which evolution to take. Of all the titular creatures in the Pokemon series, Eevee remains one of the most popular and unique due to its branching evolutionary paths. There are currently eight different options for trainers to evolve their Eevee into, which are determined by either exposing the cute Evolution Pokemon to a certain elemental stone or fulfilling a particular status condition.

When Eevee was introduced in the original Pokemon Red and Blue back in the late 90s, it brought with it a trio of evolutionary choices in the form of the Water-type Vaporeon, Electric-type Jolteon, and Fire-type Flareon. Generation 2’s Pokemon Gold and Silver introduced Espeon and Dark-type Umbreon, which are triggered by achieving a high enough Friendship level during a certain time of day. Eevee fans were given the option of the Grass-type Leafeon and Ice-type Glaceon in Diamond and Pearl. Finally, Pokemon X and Y introduced Sylveon, a Fairy-type evolution that Eevee can take on by leveling up after learning a Fairy-type move and having a high Friendship level.

Pokemon Legends Z-A: Why Fans Shouldn’t Hold Their Breath for an Eeveelution

Eevee is one of the most popular critters in the series, but Pokemon Legends: Z-A is unfortunately unlikely to add a new Eeveelution to the franchise.

A Reddit user by the handle of Crayola_Eater captured the moment each Eevee discovered its evolution of choice in a series of colorful paintings. A future Vaporeon is shown looking at other Water-type Pokemon in an aquarium, a soon-to-be Glaceon sees its reflection in an ice crystal, and a third Eevee is inspired to become Leafeon while marveling at nature’s beauty. Another contemplates its destiny as an Umbreon under the night sky, while a future Espeon does likewise at dawn. Yet another Eevee is motivated to become Flareon in front of a campfire, a Sylveon-to-be stands in front of a stage, and a future Jolteon plays with a power cord.

Eevee Remains One of Pokemon’s Most Beloved Creatures

While it is often up to Eevee’s Pokemon trainer to decide what they wish their creature to evolve into (assuming they want it to evolve at all), some users in the comment section of Crayola_Eater’s post have been intrigued by the idea of the Eevee itself choosing its new form. They also note that each picture contains a shadow or reflection of the Eevee evolution it represents – save for the Vaporeon one, which Crayola_Eater admits is due to having to move a Milotic in the background that would have formed the Bubble Jet Pokemon’s mermaid-like tail.

Regardless, Crayola_Eater’s paintings do an impressive job of illustrating the moment an Eevee decides which evolution it wants to become, inspired by the environment around it. Each new Pokemon generation brings with it the possibility of more Eevee evolutions, and talented fan artists frequently share concepts for the types that aren’t currently represented in the Eevee line. While Pokemon Scarlet and Violet didn’t introduce any new Eevee forms, fans remain hopeful that the little brown creature gains a few more choices in the future.
