  • Fan art allows for creative freedom, but Charmeleon’s Mega Evolution is unlikely to be official.

A Pokemon fan has shared their take on what Mega Evolutions could look like for four Pokemon, including one particularly unusual one. The unique take on Mega Evolutions shows fans’ continued interest in the unique evolution method that’s making a return in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Over the years, Pokemon has gradually incorporated other methods of powering up Pokemon beyond simply levelling them. Dynamax, Gigantamax, and Mega Evolutions all provide Pokemon with a temporary power boost that typically only lasts until the end of a battle. It’s an interesting addition to the formula, and one that’s been pretty popular, even though these unique evolutions have only popped up in select titles since their inception.

Fan Shares Impressive Pokemon Fusions

A talented Pokemon player shares awesome images of fusions that they made consisting of pocket monsters like Absol and Umbreon.

Pokemon fan LukeTheCyberpunk has some ideas for new Mega Evolutions, including one that doesn’t quite fit the trend. In all, the fan created Mega Evolutions for Feraligatr, Charmeleon, Reuniclus, and Raichu. Fans of Mega Evolution will likely recognize the outlier; Mega Evolutions have only ever been available to final evolutions of Pokemon, and Charmeleon is the mid-point between Charmander and Charizard.

Regardless of this unusual decision, the four designs are quite impressive to look at. Feraligatr’s spikes have grown significantly, and it looks as though it’s gained an armored layer on its shoulders and abdomen. Its claws and teeth have also grown and look more dangerous. Charmeleon also looks like it has a tougher skin, larger spikes, and seems to have transferred some of the flame of its tail to its hands, with its tail flame appearing significantly smaller proportionately. Reuniclus’ arms have separated from its body and appear to be hovering nearby it, with its eyes emitting an ethereal glow. Finally, Raichu’s body has changed colors, it’s grown lightning bolt-like eyebrows, and its tail has grown in size significantly, charging up an electric attack in the art.

Pokemon Fanart Knows No Bounds

While one fan was quick to point out that it was odd for Charmeleon to get a Mega Evolution, the joy of Pokemon fanart is that there’s no rules. Pokemon fans regularly mash up random Pokemon in fusions, combine different franchises entirely with Pokemon, and come up with all kinds of unique ideas that would likely never make it to the games. While some of these Pokemon may very well receive an official Mega Evolution, unless somethign changes in Game Freak’s direction, it’s unlikely that Charmeleon will be among them. Thankfully, its evolution Charizard already has multiple different unique forms like Mega Charizard X and Y, so its middle-evolutionary form doesn’t really need one.
