- Sega is developing a new Apple Arcade exclusive crossover game, with a focus on tennis.
- The game will be part of the Sega All-Stars series, developed by Hardlight.
- While some fans are excited, others are concerned about Sega’s shift towards mobile gaming platforms.
Sega has a new franchise crossover game in development, and it will be an Apple Arcade exclusive, a reputable leaker has said. This information comes from Midori, who has had an accurate track record regarding the developments of Sega titles. Sega has started a new initiative to develop titles exclusively for these platforms. This can be seen with the acquisition of Angry Birds developer Rovio late last year, as well as new mobile games such as Sonic Dream Team and Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop. Midori also says Sega is working on a mobile exclusive crossover game.
While its franchises aren’t as big as Nintendo or Capcom, Sega has dabbled in making crossover games, all under the Sega All-Stars series name. The first game, Sega Superstars, was a party game exclusive to the PS2 that featured prominent Sega franchises like Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Monkey Ball, Samba de Amigo, and Virtua Fighter, among others. The series would also get one tennis and two racing spin-off titles, with the last title being 2012’s Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed. Midori says the crossover series is coming back with a new title in 2024.
Rumor: Former Sega Employee Teasing Some Sort of Capcom Crossover
A former Sega employee is seemingly teasing fans regarding some sort of mysterious crossover with fellow gaming publisher Capcom.
This information was posted on Midori’s Twitter account, where she discusses the recently revealed Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop, a game she had leaked back in January, saying its development began over a year ago. She then discussed the new Sega titles that are in development, clarifying that it will be a new Sega All-Stars game specifically. She also mentions its developer, Hardlight, who was a developer on several Sonic mobile spin-off games in the past, including the aforementioned Sonic Dream Team, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, and more.
Leaked Sega All-Stars Game Details
- 2024 Launch
- Apple Arcade Exclusive
- Tennis crossover sports spin-off
- Developed by Hardlight (Sonic Dream Team, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, Crazy Taxi: City Rush)
When asked for more information about the game, such as its premise, Midori clarifies that it will be tennis-focused. These claims match up with a lot of previous information that Midori had provided earlier in February. Midori claimed that a new Sonic Sports-themed Apple Arcade exclusive title was in development, alongside a Chao Garden focused and Fall Guys-inspired mobile spin-off.
While some fans were happy to hear that a new Sega All-Stars game is possibly in development, others lamented how Sega was leaning into this initiative and that many classic Sega franchises are releasing the Apple Arcade subscription service instead of mainline consoles, with many gamers expressing they have no interest in paying for Apple Arcade to play these upcoming games. That said, despite Midori’s incredibly accurate track record in the past, fans should take this leak with a grain of salt until Sega provides more information regarding this possible Sega tennis crossover spin-off.
