Pokemon: 10 Best Filler Episodes, Ranked
A look at the best Pokemon filler episodes ever created is important since the anime spans 1000+ episodes and has many different story arcs.
But aside from her relationship with Ash, this aspiring Coordinator from the Kalos Region was a fascinating trainer who caught and raised some unique Pokemon. But, which member of her team is the best? It’s important to keep in mind that Serena only caught and trained three different Pokemon throughout her adventures, so temporary Pokemon that she borrowed from Ash and Clemont were also accounted for.
7 Ash’s Goomy
A Cute, But Way Too Weak, Pokemon
The Dragon-type Goomy is a small and cute Pokemon that would actually fit Serena’s team perfectly. But this particular Goomy belonged to Ash, and Serena & Bonnie fought alongside it after their group was separated by Team Rocket’s antics.
Serena’s interaction with Goomy was extremely brief, and the Soft Tissue Pokemon didn’t help much against Team Rocket because of his cowardice. But it admittedly had some interesting chemistry with Serena, and, hypothetically, it would’ve been very interesting to see her training a Goodra for Pokemon Contests.
6 Clemont’s Chespin
A Goofy Guardian Who Tried His Best
In another episode, the group gets separated once again and Serena ends up having to command Ash’s Frogadier and Clemont’s Chespin, with the latter being the less heroic of this odd duo. He even got jealous of seeing Frogadier trying to protect Serena, which inspired him to try to help in their encounter against some wild Pangoro, even though he failed miserably.
The relationship between Chespin, Frogadier, and Serena was quite funny, and it made for some fun comedic scenarios, even if it was just for one episode. And even though she chose Fennekin as her Starter Pokemon, this episode proved that Chespin’s design and personality would also have fit Serena’s team quite well.
5 Ash’s Frogadier
A Much More Efficient Bodyguard
In that very same episode, Ash’s Frogadier was also stuck with Serena, and he made a way better effort to protect his trainer’s friend. The Bubble Frog Pokemon used his powerful abilities and his Frubbles to hold back and distract the dangerous wild Pangoro. Frogadier knew how important she was to Ash, and it was very satisfying to see him spring into action just to protect her.

4 Ash’s Pikachu
The Show’s Mascot Helped Serena Impersonate Ash
In one of the most entertaining episodes of Pokemon the Series: XY, Serena had to disguise herself as Ash to fight a trainer since the real Ash was deeply ill. The trainer in question was Jimmy, who claimed to be the strongest Pikachu trainer, so Serena was forced to fight alongside Ash’s closest friend.
This resulted in a very funny fight, in which a confused Pikachu followed Serena’s orders, and he tried his best to help her out however he could. The two had some solid chemistry, showing off how friendly Ash’s Pikachu is and how much potential as a trainer Serena has. This clash between Pikachus was sadly interrupted by Team Rocket, but this strange situation enhanced Serena and Pikachu’s friendship.
3 Pancham
The “Tough Guy” Of Serena’s Team
- First Appearance: Episode 846
As a coordinator, Serena usually had a preference for adorable and more feminine Pokemon. But having a more mischievous and tough Pokemon like Pancham in her team was quite brilliant because these traits helped him stand out from the rest. Of course, he was still small and cute, but his personality was extremely different from his teammates.
Pancham is very playful and often pretends that he doesn’t care what others think of him when he actually does, and he’s particularly fond of his trainer. Despite his distinctive personality and move set, Pancham was a crucial part of Serena’s performances and helped out with powerful moves like Arm Thrust or Stone Edge. And of course, his signature sunglasses looked cool.
2 Sylveon
A Pokemon That Seems To Have Been Created Specifically For Serena
- First Appearance: Episode 888
It’s quite common for Eevee to be featured in every new series of the Pokemon anime, especially if it coincides with the reveal of a brand new Eevelution in the most recent video games. But the friendship between Sylveon and Serena was a perfect match, as this new Eevelution looks like something that was specifically created for this character.

She started as a timid Eevee who loved to dance but was afraid to show her talents to the world. Serena’s encouragement helped Eevee get over her shyness, which eventually led to her evolution into a beautiful Sylveon. This Pokemon not only had some inspiring character development, but she also did amazingly at Pokemon Contests, where she incorporated her dance moves into the performances.
1 Delphox
Serena’s Best Friend Who Was By Her Side From The Start
- First Appearance: Episode 802
Serena chose Fennekin as her Starter Pokemon at the beginning of her journey, and this was an excellent choice. Because of her adorable design and friendly personality, Fennekin fits her team perfectly and the two of them quickly became almost inseparable, to the point that they even began mimicking each other.
Serena wouldn’t be the talented Pokemon Coordinator she is today if it weren’t for Fennekin’s talents and willingness to grow. The two of them learned a lot together and slowly got better and better. And when Fennekin evolved into Braixen, she became even more graceful and powerful.
When Serena appeared once again during Pokemon Journeys, it was revealed that Braixen had finally evolved into her final form, Delphox, which proved how strong and talented they both had become. Serena is synonymous with the Delphox evolutionary line and vice versa, and it’s all thanks to the endearing friendship between this Kalosian Pokemon Coordinator and her beloved Starter Pokemon.
